Senior Technical Claims Specialist, Construction Complex

Pay Range Base salary: $82,000 – $157,000 per year.
Description The Senior Technical Claims Specialist determines coverage, investigates complex commercial casualty claims, sets and adjusts reserves, evaluates claims, negotiates settlements, authorizes and resolves claims. Demonstrates expertise and sound judgment in complex matters and serves as a subject matter expert.
The role is within the Construction Vertical, handling bodily injury and discreet property damage claims. Construction Defect losses are not handled.
Strong preference for candidates living within 50 miles of one of the hub offices (Boston, MA; Westborough, MA; Plano, TX; Suwanee, GA; Indianapolis, IN; Hoffman Estates, IL; Lake Oswego, OR; Las Vegas, NV; Chandler, AZ; Weatogue, CT). Remote candidates considered if not within 50 miles.
Responsibilities
Own claim and determine coverage, investigate, set and adjust reserves, evaluate, negotiate, authorize, pay claim.
Review lawsuit documentation and supporting documents, claims file and investigation to establish actions to resolve lawsuit.
Determine loss coverage, amounts owed, discovery plans, set reserves and negotiations.
Establish appropriate working team (Home Office Legal, Defense Counsel and Home Office Claims) based on allegations established in suit.
Manage practice and billing activities of outside counsel.
Secure financial processing of claims and maintain confidentiality of claims files.
Train and mentor staff, manage relationships and act as liaison with business partners (Underwriting, Reinsurance, etc.).
Keep abreast of legislation, court decisions and trends affecting specialty coverage issues.
Analyze impact on claims policies and procedures and advise Claims.
Ensure appropriate action when required.
Participate in special projects.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 5–7 years claims adjusting experience.
Advanced knowledge of commercial casualty claims investigation, coverage evaluation, reserving, expense management, resolution strategy, negotiation, litigation management, claims evaluation and insurance legal regulatory environment.
Intermediate to advanced level customer focus, problem solving, communication, support, teamwork, adaptability and ability to work independently, achieve results and execute thoroughly.
Construction liability or commercial general liability claims experience preferred.
