Accountant 3
in Juneau, Alaska
This position is open to Alaska Residents.
What You Will Be Doing The position provides financial support to the department by offering expert accounting assistance regarding fiscal processes, policies and procedures for department managers and staff.

The Working Environment You Can Expect The offices are centrally located in beautiful downtown Juneau, close to shopping, dining, hiking trails, and the waterfront. We are located in the Court Plaza Building where you will have large windows with views of Mount Juneau or water views of the Channel.
Who We Are Looking For We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position‑specific competencies:
Accounting:
Knowledge of traditional accounting practices including accrual, obligations, and cost methods. Financial Systems:
Knowledge of the standards, architecture, and specifications of automated financial systems, including source documents, system flows, system interfaces, and related internal controls.
Essential skills of the successful candidate include communication, collaboration, and the ability to facilitate proactive, ongoing training and development for the Fiscal and Revenue staff as well as departmental administrative and management staff.
Minimum Qualifications Competency Description
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:
Analysis and Assessment:
Uses information technology to access, collect, analyze, maintain, and disseminate data and information.
Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving:
Uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
Oral and Written Communication:
Expresses information to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information.
Principles of Accounting:
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices, including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.
Technical Competence:
Uses knowledge acquired through formal training or extensive on‑job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.
Typical education or experience: preparatory post‑secondary education and/or progressively responsible professional level experience in accounting, budgeting, or financial management.
Some positions may require a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field and/or a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). The requirement will be noted in the posting.
