The Department of Family and Community Services, Division of Departmental Support Services is recruiting for a full-time Accountant 4.
Locations:
Anchorage or Juneau, Alaska. This position is open to Alaska Residents Only.
What You Will Be Doing Are you an experienced accountant looking to join a new, fun, and exciting team? If so, the Department of Family and Community Services is recruiting to fill an Accountant 4 within our Finance Unit. If cost allocation and federal reporting are skills you know or areas you are excited about learning, this is the position you want.
Administration of the department’s public assistance cost allocation plan.
Adherence to federal regulations and ensuring the integrity of the allocation processes.
Serving as the Cost Allocation specialist for the department.
Preparing the Title IV‑E federal reports.
Professional Qualities Desired
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to explain complex concepts in a straightforward manner.
Experience providing technical assistance to internal and external clients.
Ability to read, interpret and apply complex federal regulations.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Skilled at time and task management.

Juneau:
Our offices are centrally located in downtown Juneau, close to shopping, dining, hiking trails, and the waterfront. We are located in the Court Plaza Building where you will have large windows with views of Mount Juneau or water views of the Channel.
Who We Are Looking For Essential skills of the successful candidate include communication, collaboration, and the ability to facilitate and ensure proactive, on‑going training and development for the Fiscal and Revenue staff as well as departmental administrative and management staff.
Successful candidates will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Integrity / Honesty: Contributes to maintaining the integrity of the organization; displays standards of ethical conduct and understands the impact of violating these standards on an organization, self, and others; is trustworthy.
Accounting: Knowledge of traditional accounting practices including accrual, obligations, and cost methods.
Financial Management: Prepares, justifies, and/or administers the budget for program areas; plans, administers, and monitors expenditures to ensure cost‑effective support of programs and policies; assesses financial condition of an organization.
Minimum Qualifications Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:
Analysis & Assessment:
Uses information technology in accessing, collecting, analyzing, maintaining, and disseminating data and information.
Financial Analysis:
Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of financial analysis, forecasting, and modeling to interpret quantitative and qualitative data; includes data modeling, earned value management, and evaluating key financial indicators, trends, and historical data.
Principles of Accounting:
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices (for example, double entry accounting, accrual accounting), including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.
Reasoning:
Identifies rules, principles, or relationships that explain facts, data, or other information; analyzes information and makes correct inferences or draws accurate conclusions.
Technical Competence:
Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on‑the‑job experience to perform one’s job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.
