MEDIATION UNIT SUPERVISOR ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER III
The Office of the Attorney General is seeking a qualified applicant for a Mediation Supervisor in the Mediation Unit of the Consumer Protection Division. The Consumer Protection Division enforces Maryland’s laws against unfair, abusive, and deceptive trade practices. The Mediation Unit handles between 10,000 and 12,000 consumer complaints annually and assists more than 40,000 consumers through phone and email correspondence.
Job Purpose The Mediation Supervisor will play a key role in this high‑volume, fast‑paced environment. Responsibilities include training and supervising volunteers, interns, and mediators; negotiating complex consumer complaints; and helping manage the daily caseload of the unit. The position also involves ensuring the quality and timeliness of the mediation process and mentoring volunteers and interns on relevant legal issues and consumer protection laws.
Responsibilities
Train and supervise volunteers, interns, and mediators in the mediation process.
Negotiate and resolve complex consumer complaints and disputes.
Manage the daily caseload of the Mediation Unit and ensure timely completion of tasks.
Mentor volunteers and interns on consumer protection laws, legal issues, and mediation best practices.
Maintain quality and timeliness of the mediation process and uphold unit standards.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate.
Three (3) years of administrative or professional work experience.
Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to two (2) years of the required experience.
Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from a college or university for the required experience.
Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules, or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience.
Desired or Preferred Qualifications
Proven experience in mediating consumer protection matters.
Experience leading teams in supervisory roles.
Experience managing complex databases.
Strong problem‑solving abilities.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
Selection Process Applicants who meet the minimum and selective qualifications will be included in further evaluation. The evaluation may be a rating of your application based on your education, training, and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position. Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list for at least one year.
