Summary The Senior Specialist, Marketing Automation plays a critical role in optimizing and managing SHRM’s marketing automation infrastructure, with a primary focus on Adobe Marketo Engage. The role contributes to SHRM’s broader digital transformation by helping to evolve our marketing technology stack, including future journey orchestration capabilities in Adobe Journey Optimizer (AJO). The Sr. Specialist, Marketing Automation will empower our teams to effectively engage audiences, enhance personalization, and drive business growth.

Responsibilities

Owns the daily maintenance and health of Marketo, Vibes SMS, Dynamic Chat, and Adobe Journey Optimizer (AJO), ensuring smooth and reliable performance.

Monitors and manages platform integrations, data flows, and syncs to ensure accurate reporting and segmentation.

Proactively identifies opportunities for platform optimization and process improvement.

Serves as the first point of contact for all platform-related questions, requests, and troubleshooting from marketing stakeholders.

Partners with campaign managers and channel leads to ensure platforms are being leveraged effectively for audience targeting, automation, and personalization.

Collaborates with IT, analytics, and external vendors as needed to resolve issues or implement new features and functionality.

Leads monthly training and upskilling sessions for the marketing organization to boost tool adoption, promote best practices, and drive platform maturity.

Creates and maintains documentation and internal resources related to platform use and configurations.

Education & Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; in lieu of degree, relevant equivalent experience.

Five (5) or more years of experience in marketing automation, email marketing, or digital marketing, preferably in both B2B and B2C environments.

Hands‑on experience with Adobe Marketo Engage.

Experience analyzing campaign performance using Marketo, Customer Journey Analytics (CJA), or other marketing analytics tools.

Experience with CRM platforms (Salesforce preferred) and integrating them with Marketo.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to effectively leverage artificial intelligence (AI) tools and technologies to streamline workflows, enhance productivity, and improve overall work quality.

Understanding of lead scoring, audience segmentation, personalization, and marketing automation best practices.

Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining strong attention to detail.

Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively across teams.

Background in marketing automation and marketing technology systems, with hands‑on expertise in Adobe Marketo Engage and familiarity with journey orchestration platforms such as Adobe Journey Optimizer (AJO).

Certifications

Adobe Marketo Engage Business Practitioner/Expert or Adobe Journey Optimizer Business Practitioner – a plus.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, handling documents, and using office equipment.

Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching.

Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds as needed.

Clear verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with colleagues and stakeholders.

Work Environment

This position follows a hybrid work schedule, with Tuesday through Thursday in office and Monday and Friday remote. Employees must be available during standard business hours, with core hours beginning between 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM and concluding between 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM.

Salary & Benefits The hiring range for this position is $78,000 to $95,000 per year. This range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications. SHRM offers a competitive and comprehensive total rewards package.
