About Assets Protection Assets Protection teams protect guests, team members, and the brand. They mitigate shortage risks, prevent and resolve theft and fraud, and build relationships inside and outside of Target, including law enforcement.
Why Target Target Security Specialists develop skills using intelligence‑led tactics, crisis response, crowd management, de‑escalation, physical security controls, and Target’s video surveillance system. They document cases accurately and timely using case management systems.
Typical Day
Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests at the front of store.
Promote a physical security culture by maintaining safe and secure standards throughout the store and exterior property.
Respond to and accurately document security incidents promptly.
Provide safe and secure environment for guests and team members by appropriately responding to guest issues.
Leverage de‑escalation tactics and resources when responding to security incidents across the store.
Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft apprehension support as needed, strictly adhering to AP policies.
Prevent theft and shortage at the front of store by performing merchandise receipt checks while recognizing and communicating trends.
Submit appropriate documentation in the case management system for all incidents following AP policy and procedures.
Understand and use Target’s video surveillance system.
Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety and compliance.
Work safely at all times; comply with all safety policies and report hazards.
Complete all other duties based on business needs.

Required Skills
At least 18 years of age or older.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Meet any state or local licensure and/or other legal requirements.
Welcoming and helpful attitude toward all guests and team members.
Communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed.
Effective communication skills.
Work both independently and with a team.
Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
Remain focused and composed in a fast‑paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes.
Climb up and down ladders.
Apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
Scan, handle and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including lifting or moving up to 40 pounds.
Work in and be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity and other elements while performing job duties.
Remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift.
