Job Summary The speech‑language pathologist is responsible for implementation of standards of care for speech‑language pathology services and for adherence to all conditions in the Service Agreement.
Essential Responsibilities
Conduct appropriate evaluations, assess home environment (as appropriate), identify equipment needs relative to speech/language function.
Identify functional speech defects and establish a plan of care to improve patient’s function.
Administer speech therapy program utilizing specialized therapeutic technique and/or equipment.
Recommend communication devices/aids as indicated.
Confere with referring physician and other organization personnel to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care contributes to the total plan of care.
Participate in case conferences, in‑services and other meetings required to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.
Prepare and submit clinical notes per organization policy.
Maintain clinical competency in speech‑language pathology practice and theory.
Identify patient and family/caregiver needs for other services and refer as appropriate.
Instruct patient, family/caregiver and other organization health care personnel in the treatment regime as indicated.
May supervise home health aide in procedures directly related to the speech‑language therapy plan of care.
Perform other duties as required to facilitate the delivery of speech language pathology services.
Qualifications
Master’s or doctoral degree in speech‑language pathology (SLP).
Licensed as a speech‑language pathologist by the State in which the individual furnishes such service.
Or, if the State does not license speech‑language pathologists:
Successfully complete 350 clock hours of supervised clinical practicum.
Performed not less than 9 months of supervised full‑time SLP services after obtaining a master’s or doctoral degree in SLP or a related field.
Successfully completed an approved national examination in SLP.
Minimum of one year’s clinical experience in speech‑language pathology.
Demonstrates good verbal and written communication, and organization skills.
Possesses and maintains current CPR certification.
Valid California driver’s license with automobile that is in good working order and insured in accordance with organization requirements.
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit occasionally for 1‑3 hours.
Ability to stand for 3‑6 hours.
Ability to drive/operate foot control for 1‑3 hours.
Ability to walk on level surface for 1‑3 hours; walk intermittently on uneven surface for less than 1 hour.
Ability to bend, climb, twist, kneel, crouch, and crawl for 1‑3 hours.
Ability to lift 50 pounds intermittently in less than 1 hour.
Maintain current and valid driver’s license and automobile insurance coverage at all times.
