Medical-Legal Partnership Staff Attorney

CLA seeks an attorney to be part of its Worcester-based medical-legal partnership (MLP) with UMass Memorial Health. The attorney will hold regular client intake hours at clinical sites; participate in leadership team and project evaluation meetings with clinical partners; serve as a liaison between the legal and clinical project partners; and help train, recruit, and mentor private volunteer attorneys who will accept pro bono referrals. The attorney will also handle a varied caseload involving homelessness prevention, income and health insurance maximization, domestic relations, special education, and guardianship. The attorney will have grant-reporting and administrative duties. QUALIFICATIONS: Admission to Massachusetts Bar or entitled to practice under a Massachusetts practice rule required. Access to reliable transportation and willingness to meet with clients at medical facilities required. Candidate must be highly organized and have excellent oral and written communication skills, including versatility in communicating effectively with a range of stakeholders. Experience in developing, administering and/or working as an attorney in a medical-legal partnership or other collaborative setting strongly preferred, as are strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work well with corporate and institutional partners. Fluency in a second language, especially Spanish, preferred. COMPENSATION: The starting salary for this position is $73,000, which is based on a union scale and adjusted upward depending on experience. CLA offers a very generous benefits package that includes 401(k) with employer-paid contribution; low-cost health insurance (medical, dental, and vision) for employees and their dependents; malpractice insurance; paid leave (4 weeks vacation, 3 personal days, 12 sick days, and 13 holidays); loan repayment assistance; and relocation stipend.
