Hours: 24 full‑workload hours per academic year
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare and teach undergraduate courses as integrated in the program’s curriculum of seminar and studio courses with an emphasis on areas of expertise in architectural or urban design, architectural history/theory, professional practice, or building technology.
Student recruitment, academic advising, mentoring, and retention in alignment with and in support of the University’s Christ‑centered mission and values statement.
Scholarly and/or creative activity commensurate with rank appointment.
College and university service.
Advise and mentor students in research and other class‑related projects.
Engage in activities to support the mission and vision of Belmont University and the college in which you teach.
Participate in departmental and university committee work.
Participate in a local church and the community.
Abide by all relevant university and/or department procedures and policies.
Manage online grading system and maintain regular office hours.
Timely submission of book orders if textbooks are required.
Maintain the overall well‑being of the student body in a Christ‑centered learning environment.
Required Qualifications
A terminal degree in architecture or a closely related field (Ph.D., M.Arch., or foreign equivalent) is required for appointment in a tenure‑track position.
Knowledge of principles, methods and current developments in the field of study.
Knowledge of subject matter and course content taught.
Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques.
Demonstrated capacity to engage in high‑quality scholarly activity.
Demonstrated ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students.
Skilled in the use of computers, Internet resources, and MS Office software.
Ability to use BannerWeb, Belmont University’s online integrated database system for student grading.
Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses.
Proficiency in the use of campus technology and an understanding of the college and university mission and values.
Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident and demonstrate background check satisfaction.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated effectiveness teaching at the college level.
Record of scholarly/creative accomplishment appropriate to the discipline.
Record of achievement in professional practice settings.
Credentialing with appropriate professional licensure.
Record of achievement in professional practice settings.
Proficiency in the use of campus technology and an understanding of the college and university mission and values.
Required Education A terminal degree in architecture or a closely related field (Ph.D., M.Arch., or foreign equivalent) is required. Applicants without an acknowledged terminal degree but holding similar appropriate credentials and/or a record of significant professional accomplishment will be considered for appointment as Professor of Practice.
Required Experience Teaching experience for Professors of Practice is not required, however it is a preferred qualification for additional consideration in the selection process when the candidate has demonstrated effectiveness teaching at the college level.
