Job Description And Duties Are you eager to use technology and data to solve complex problems? The Short‑Lived Climate Pollutant Policy Section (SLCPPS) at the California Air Resources Board (CARB) seeks a motivated candidate with data management and automation skills to reduce methane emissions, and improve air quality and public health. In this role, the incumbent will work across government, academia, and industry to develop an approach to track climate and environmental outcomes.

Data ETL (extract, transform, and load) and visualization

Programming

The successful candidate will also collaborate internally to envision, develop, and implement a data management system and will include advise on, lead, or assist efforts to:

Design a portal to collect and route information (e.g., using Microsoft Power Pages, Power Automate, or similar).

Collect and analyze data from methane‑emitting sectors and summarize information to inform policy decisions.

Develop and maintain a database to query and retrieve data (e.g., SQL, Snowflake, Microsoft Dataverse, or similar).

Create public‑facing data visualizations and maps to communicate key findings (e.g., using Tableau, ESRI, Power BI, Python, Javascript, HTML, CSS, or other platforms).

Develop automated data validation and quality control processes across varied data formats (e.g., using Python, R, or Excel macros).
