POSITION SUMMARY:
The Washington Ballet's Company Manager is the primary liaison for all matters concerning artists working with the ballet. This position works closely with the Artistic Director, Artistic and Production Departments to facilitate all administrative and logistical issues related to schedule, travel, and health for dancers, choreographers, designers, and other artists. The Company Manager is a key contributor to TWB's culture and is expected to actively participate in creating a culture that reflects TWB's core values of Creativity, Commitment, Communication, Collaboration, Compassion, and Community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Dancer Management
- Work with Artistic Staff to create and distribute daily schedules for dancers, including rehearsals, performances, fittings, special events, and marketing needs, ensuring compliance with company policies and CBAs.
- Facilitate dancer health and wellness by coordinating with health management teams and ensuring timely services. Manage workers' compensation claims and OSHA reporting.
- Process payroll for dancers and guest artists, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain employment authorization documentation for non-US citizen artists in coordination with HR and Payroll.
Artistic Department Support
- Coordinate travel arrangements for artistic and production members and guests.
- Create and maintain guides, manuals, and information packets for dancers and artists.
- Track and manage artistic budget expenses.
- Manage the Artistic Director's calendar and schedules, resolving conflicts and tracking deadlines.
- Assist with managing casting documents.
Production Department Support
- Assist with contracts for artistic and production personnel.
- Coordinate catering and hospitality for dancers and staff.
- Assist in planning and executing special events.
- Be onsite at venues as needed and act as an Assistant Stage Manager when required.
General Company
- Maintain professional relationships with staff, artists, and the public.
- Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment.
- Participate in fostering TWB's core values and work culture.
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Minimum 3 years of management experience in a similar performing arts organization; touring experience is a plus.
- Ability to manage budgets.
- Experience with union CBAs (AGMA, IATSE, USA, AFM).
- Excellent communication skills.
- Understanding of dancer/artists' needs.
- Knowledge of theatre operations; ballet/dance experience is a plus.
- Proficiency in Office365, file sharing, and database software; quick learner of new programs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS, WORK ENVIRONMENT, AND SCHEDULE:
This is an on-site position requiring mobility in office and theatre environments, navigating stairs, and operating equipment. Regular hours are Monday-Friday 9:30 am - 6 pm, with evenings, weekends, and travel during production weeks. Presence during dancer working hours is required.
