SPU is seeking an experienced Heavy Truck Driver in the Water Operations and System Maintenance Branch. The successful candidate will operate dump truck and tilt-deck trailer combos or three-axle trucks to haul materials or equipment to assigned destinations within the Greater Seattle area. This position will report to Water Crew Chief. The locations for these positions are North Operations Center (1318 N 128th St, Seattle) and/or the Operations Control Center (2700 Airport Way S, Seattle).

Responsibilities
Drive heavy dump trucks (in excess of 10,000 lbs. GVW) with tilt trailers, hauling equipment or material to construction sites. Perform repair and maintenance of the City’s water system, fixing leaks, installing new services, valves, and more. Operate mechanical and hydraulic equipment attached to trucks, such as trailers, winches, hoists, pumps, and compressors. Haul spoils and fill material to and from various job sites and to other assigned destinations. Observe safety regulations during loading, rigging, transporting, and unloading of materials. Inspect combination truck or tractor/trailers prior to operation to ensure safe condition; clean equipment and perform minor repair. Maintain records of mileage, servicing, and minor maintenance of equipment. Perform other related duties as assigned. Work with a diverse group of people in a team environment. Qualifications
One (1) year of experience operating heavy trucks, including multi-axle trucks and truck/trailer or tractor/trailer combinations. Knowledge of City, State, and Federal rules and regulations governing the safe operation of truck/trailer and tractor/trailer combinations. Commercial Driver's License – Class A with the airbrake restriction removed. Valid Medical Certificate. Tanker Endorsement, Valid Washington State Flagging card, Forklift Certification, First Aid/CPR card, and a defensive driving course certificate may be required within six (6) months of employment at the City’s expense. Additional Desired Skills
Experience driving and operating a hydro excavator and/or a Vactor truck. Experience operating a dump truck in a construction zone environment. Exemplary safety record. Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced setting. Excellent customer service skills, treating employees and customers in the public with the utmost respect. Capability to work as a functional and present team member but also work independently when necessary. Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adaptable. Required to be on call 24 hours/day to respond to emergencies. Ability to develop and maintain respectful and inclusive working relationships within a multicultural workforce and with the multicultural customers and communities we serve. May be asked to work weekends, holidays, extended shifts, overtime and participate in stand-by rotation as needed. Stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time. Lift objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds. Spend long periods of time driving trucks, often in heavy traffic and under adverse weather conditions. Supplemental Application
