Adjunct Assistant Professor, Legal Studies
Johnson County Community College is looking for a diverse pool of applicants to increase its adjunct pool in the Legal Studies Department. This position requires on‑campus teaching, but may also include online teaching.
Position Summary The Legal Studies Department consists of two programs: the ABA‑approved Paralegal program and the Business Law program. Adjunct faculty teach 0‑10 credit hours per semester in Business Law, the Paralegal Program, or both. Instruction should be engaging, experiential, motivating, and effective.
Key Responsibilities
Teach Business Law and/or Paralegal courses on campus and/or online.
Prepare syllabi, grading, and maintain accurate grade records.
Provide timely, substantive feedback to students.
Meet institutional expectations related to class meetings, availability, attendance, and confidentiality.
Attend required meetings and participate in professional development.
Maintain professional conduct and ethics.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor degree (attorney candidates) or Bachelor’s degree with either a Paralegal Certificate or Paralegal Degree (paralegal candidates).
Minimum of two years of experience as an attorney working with paralegals or two years of experience working as a paralegal.
Demonstrated teaching experience in a community college or university setting.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Effective use of technology in the classroom.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in immigration or intellectual property law.
Certified paralegal capable of training students for certification exams.
Experience teaching college‑level paralegal or business law classes.
Current admitted to the practice of law in Kansas, Missouri, or other state bar.
Pay Range $1,208 – $1,344 per credit hour (based on adjunct table and years of work experience).
