Overview
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office invites skilled attorneys with a commitment to justice to apply for the position of Deputy District Attorney 2 (DDA 2). The Office prosecutes offenders accused of state and municipal law violations within Multnomah County. The Office is committed to the open and balanced administration of justice and to honoring and respecting diversity in all its forms.
The Office has approximately 200 staff members, including 78 Deputy District Attorneys. It prosecutes state felony and misdemeanor charges in Multnomah County and is a leader in drug courts, diversion programs, community courts, and neighborhood prosecution. There are opportunities to develop skills and grow within the organization.
Responsibilities
Review police reports and evidence to make informed charging decisions in a wide variety of felony criminal offenses.
Advise law enforcement and community members regarding legal questions and procedures.
Prepare felony cases for trial, develop trial strategy, prepare witnesses, and draft legal motions and memoranda.
Negotiate case resolutions with defense counsel; analyze admissibility and determine the presentation of witnesses and evidence; prepare briefs and litigate pre-trial motions.
Appear in court and represent the State of Oregon in arraignments, grand jury proceedings, all phases of trial, plea entries, sentencing hearings, and probation violation hearings.
Qualifications
Required Minimum Qualifications:
At least 3 years of prior criminal prosecution experience or 8+ years of experience as a practicing lawyer.
Prior jury trial experience.
Member in good standing of the Oregon State Bar or awaiting Oregon bar acceptance or reciprocal admission.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to persuasively present facts and evidence to judges and juries.
Good judgment and organizational skills; ability to work with others; follow complex instructions; interpret and implement legal analysis; and interact tactfully with the public.
Valid driver\'s license.
Preferred Special Qualifications / Transferable Skills
Thorough knowledge of criminal law practice and Oregon criminal procedure.
Strong academic record.
Resident of Multnomah County.
Willingness to assist with complex major felony prosecution.
Other
Candidates must successfully pass a thorough criminal background check and post-offer urine drug screen.
Disclosure regarding outside associations may be required during the interview process.
