Opportunity
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office invites skilled attorneys with a commitment to justice to apply for the position of Deputy District Attorney 1 (DDA 1). The Office prosecutes state and municipal criminal offenses in Multnomah County and is a leader in drug courts, diversion programs, community courts, and neighborhood prosecution. A Deputy District Attorney will develop skills, grow within the organization, and contribute to a fair and open system of justice. Job Responsibilities
Review police reports and evidence to determine an appropriate charging decision for a wide variety of misdemeanor offenses. Advise law enforcement and community members on legal questions and procedures. Prepare misdemeanor cases for trial, including developing trial strategies, preparing witnesses, and drafting legal motions and memoranda. Participate in case negotiations with defense counsel. Appear before the State of Oregon in arraignments, all trial phases, plea and sentencing hearings, and probation‑violation hearings. Required Minimum Qualifications
J.D. from an accredited law school, member in good standing of the Oregon State Bar, and eligible for reciprocity. Current Certified law students employed at MCDA or a law clerk with at least one year of experience in a prosecutor’s office. Active membership in good standing with the Oregon State Bar before the time of employment. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to persuasively present facts to judges and juries. Good judgment, organization, and the ability to work with others and follow complex instructions. Valid driver's license. Preferred Special Qualifications and Transferable Skills
Prior jury trial experience. In-depth knowledge of criminal law and rules of criminal procedure. Strong academic record. Resident of Multnomah County. Willingness to assist with complex major felony prosecution. Advanced knowledge of data systems such as RegJIN, LEDS, NCIC, Odyssey, and CRIMES. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Must pass a thorough criminal background check and a post‑offer urine drug screen. Ability to explain how transferable skills gained through education, work, or life experience apply to this position. Initial review of application materials for minimum qualifications.
