Bus Monitor – Transportation – Dickinson ISD, TX
Position Summary Assist with providing safe transportation for special needs students to and from designated locations. Support the Driver and students in the operation of lifts, secure special equipment, and maintain student conduct on the bus.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Assist Driver and students in the operation of lifts for wheelchairs and assisting disabled students
Maintain good student conduct on the bus
Secure special equipment that may accompany the student
Be alert to any conditions presenting a danger to students
Communicate appropriately with students, parents, and employees
Qualifications
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Acceptable driving record
Satisfactory criminal history check
Must successfully complete a 20-hour special needs training course
Ability to read two and three-syllable words
Ability to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers
Ability to print and speak simple sentences
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students
Ability to read and understand maps
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form
Ability to perform duties with an awareness of all district requirements and the School Board policies
Working Conditions
Continuously required to sit and occasionally required to walk or stand
Frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk
Repetitive hand, arm, or finger motion
Frequently use hand strength to grasp equipment or students
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and push or pull up to 90 pounds, such as students in wheelchairs
Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision
Occasionally work in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees
Walk on slippery surfaces
Meet deadlines with severe time constraints
Interact positively with the public and other workers
Responsible for the safety and well-being of others
Noise level is loud requiring a raised voice to be heard
