Business Development Manager
– The Brattle Group is a private, global economics consulting firm looking for a dynamic
BDM
to work from our
Boston, MA, New York, NY, or Washington, DC
office. The role is focused on building a next‑generation business in practice areas such as Competition/Antitrust, Intellectual Property, Telecom, Healthcare, and Consumer Protection. The BDM will work closely with Managing Group Leaders, Practice Development Managers, and Group Principals to develop and execute revenue growth and market visibility plans. Responsibilities
Develop and implement annual strategic plans with internal stakeholders, using market and competitor analysis to inform local market strategies. Monitor industry trends and competitors to differentiate practice groups and respond to market needs (thought leadership and client‑specific offerings). Track top practice clients and prospects, identifying revenue expansion opportunities. Partner with the VP of Marketing & BD to prioritize clients for satisfaction interviews. Create and maintain core BD collateral (pitch materials, practice descriptions, bios, experience lists). Support new work pitches: research opportunities, develop custom sales collateral, manage RFPs, prep meetings, and drive follow‑up. Coordinate outreach to ensure a unified market approach. Attend practice meetings to provide marketing updates and strategic guidance. Coach and train consultants on BD best practices and next‑generation training. Engage with practice consultants to understand client work and priorities. Track and log BD activity in the CRM. Build the brand of practice groups and individuals through speaking opportunities, sponsorships, conferences, events, and media relations. Write practice and individual ranking submissions and awards. Collaborate with marketing to advance and promote thought leadership and client successes. Partner with the VP to advance market‑based profile‑raising initiatives. Develop client‑focused integration plans for new principals and expert consultants. Update marketing collateral to reflect new expertise and experience. Plan and execute multi‑channel announcement campaigns for new lateral arrivals. Collaborate with the PDM to align BD resources (budget) with strategy and recommend ROI for marketing and BD initiatives. Qualifications
8+ years of business development experience, ideally in a professional services environment. Excellent computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with CRM systems. Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with competing deadlines. Outstanding client‑service mindset – responsive, proactive, and dedicated to high‑quality work. Strategic thinking with tactical execution. Intellectual curiosity about our verticals and client services. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong planning, project management, and organizational skills. Independent and collaborative team player. Diplomatic, tactful discretion with confidential information. 40% in‑office expectation and travel flexibility as needed. Benefits
