Senior Building Code Consultant
reporting to the Co‑Founder and COO. Bridge traditional plan review and technology‑driven automation by translating building and zoning code requirements into AI platform.
Key Responsibilities
Research, interpret, and apply local and state building, zoning, and other applicable codes for residential and commercial projects.
Lead discovery and requirements‑gathering sessions with city stakeholders.
Translate and configure complex building, zoning, fire, and accessibility code provisions into CivCheck's AI platform.
Test, validate, and fine‑tune configured regulations.
Clearly articulate code rationale.
Collaborate closely with Engagement Manager and Onboarding Specialist.
Maintain detailed documentation of configuration workbooks, requirements, and system updates.
Serve as trusted advisor to cities, streamline plan review and permitting through clear processes and modern technology.
Qualifications
5+ years as building code consultant, plans examiner, or technical designer.
Deep knowledge of ICC suite (IBC, IRC, IEBC, IFC, etc.), zoning, and accessibility codes.
Proven ability to translate complex code language into clear, logic‑based workflows suitable for software implementation.
Strong analytical and technical writing skills.
Experience in process mapping, requirements gathering, or configuration management.
Excellent communication and facilitation skills; ask great questions, clarify ambiguity, build stakeholder alignment.
Comfortable working with interdisciplinary teams across engineering, customer success, and professional services.
Curious, adaptable, eager to learn new technology platforms, especially AI‑driven tools.
Bonus Points
Experience navigating building permitting and plan review processes across multiple jurisdictions.
Direct experience developing jurisdiction‑specific code checklists, internal review standards, or quality assurance processes.
Familiarity with digital plan review and permitting software.
Experience configuring or implementing government technology.
Enthusiasm for shaping how AI redefines plan review and code compliance in the public sector.
Compensation & Benefits Base salary range: $85,000 – $120,000.
Benefits depend on employment type (full‑time, part‑time, contract, etc.).
Travel & Remote Remote company; occasional in‑person travel 1–2 times per year.
