Senior Legislative Analyst Superior Court of Los Angeles County

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Job Type: Full‑time, Eligible for telework

This role supports court operations by providing advanced legislative research, analysis, and bill tracking.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct advanced research and analysis to evaluate legislative impacts on court operations and administration, and policy issues.

Track and manage reports of all legislation impacting court operations and administration; compile New Law Reports at the end of each legislative session notifying court leaders of legislation impacting the court.

Review the State budget and budget proposals and work with finance and litigation areas to identify impact to the Court and provide strategic recommendations on advocacy strategies.

Monitor and evaluate legislative proposals, budgetary changes, and governance policies impacting the court and timely inform court leaders of legislative developments; recommend strategic responses and adjustments as needed.

Draft, edit, and distribute written correspondence to elected officials and legislative bodies detailing the Court’s feedback on legislation.

Coordinate and provide technical assistance to court personnel, government agencies, and external stakeholders; represent the court in meetings and respond to formal information requests.

Assist in the planning of legislative events and the development and execution of the Court’s overall legislative engagement strategy.

Selection Requirements

OPTION I:

A bachelor’s degree in public or business administration or closely related field AND three (3) years of progressively responsible experience analyzing public policy and making recommendations for implementation of public policy.

OPTION II:

A master’s degree in public or business administration or closely related field AND one (1) year of progressively responsible experience analyzing public policy and making recommendations for implementation of public policy.

OPTION III:

A juris doctorate AND one (1) year of progressively responsible experience analyzing public policy and making recommendations for implementation of public policy.

OPTION IV:

Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience analyzing public policy and making recommendations for implementation of public policy.

Desirable Qualifications

Experience performing analysis and making recommendations regarding complex policy.

Experience in a public/government agency.

Demonstrated experience working with high‑ranking elected officials and their staff.

Excellent planning and organizational skills, including project management and facilitation.

Strong analytical, problem‑solving and organizational skills.

Excellent oral and presentation skills.

Proficient professional and technical writing skills.

Knowledge of Superior Court of California organization, programs, assignments, customer service, policies, goals, and objectives.

Familiarity with local and state political structures and processes.
