Project Director, Student Support Services
Patrick & Henry Community College is a comprehensive two‑year institution committed to student success and lifelong learning. The Project Director, Student Support Services oversees the federally funded TRIO program designed to increase retention and graduation of low‑income, first‑generation, and students with disabilities.
Purpose of Position As a grant‑funded position, the Director manages the TRIO program, develops and evaluates services, coordinates grant writing, and serves as a visible leader for institutional initiatives related to student access, persistence, and success.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide administrative leadership and day‑to‑day coordination of the TRIO program and ensure compliance with federal regulations, grant requirements, and college policies.
Hire, train, and supervise all program personnel and conduct annual staff evaluation.
Develop, implement, and assess programs and services to support first‑generation, low‑income, and students with disabilities.
Develop and monitor program budget in accordance with federal, state, and college guidelines.
Plan and account for all program expenditures; prepare federal proposals, narratives, and fiscal reports.
Establish, monitor, and evaluate program goals and objectives and guide staff toward achievement.
Correspond in a timely manner with the U.S. Department of Education and submit annual performance reports.
Maintain accurate, confidential records and prepare individualized student development plans, monitor academic progress, and use data to guide programmatic adjustments.
Collaborate with community and campus partners including Academic Advising, Admissions, Accessibility Services, Financial Aid, and Career Services.
Attend state, regional, and national conferences and training regarding Student Support Services programs.
Coordinate grant writing activities and support additional funding efforts.
Serve as a visible leader and resource for institutional initiatives related to student access, persistence, and success.
Stay informed of national best practices, emerging trends, and policy changes affecting TRIO Student Support Services.
Other job‑related duties as assigned.
KSA's / Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, sociology, or related area.
Demonstrated organizational, leadership, and supervisory skills.
Prior experience in supervisory position(s).
Prior grant experience in program administration and fiscal management; experience preparing reports and analyzing data.
Prior experience in academic advising, counseling, or case management of disadvantaged populations with a focus on retention and success in higher education.
Knowledge of career development, academic advising, and student development models.
