Associate Principal – Mechanical Project Engineer (PE)

Position Summary The Associate Principal – Mechanical Project Engineer will lead the engineering and design of commercial, educational, and healthcare projects from concept through construction. This role involves preparing construction documents, coordinating with clients and consultants, and conducting site visits to review systems. Candidates should be experienced in medical gas system design and knowledgeable in relevant building codes. Healthcare project experience is a plus.
Key Responsibilities
Lead mechanical engineering design for diverse building projects
Prepare and review construction documents and specifications
Coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams
Ensure compliance with applicable codes including NFPA 170, NFPA 99, NFPA 101, International Energy Conservation Code, and International Building Code
Conduct site visits during design and construction phases
Utilize AutoCAD and Revit for design and documentation
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and project stakeholders
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME)
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
9–15 years of experience in mechanical engineering and building systems design
Experience with medical gas system design
Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Compensation
Annual base salary range: $130,000 to $165,000
Annual discretionary bonus based on company and individual performance
Bonus eligibility and amount are based upon company and/or individual performance
Compensation may vary based on location, experience, and qualifications
Medical Insurance:
100% of employee major medical insurance premium is paid by the company. The company pays 75% of the dependent premium. Employees are responsible for all deductibles and 25% of the dependent premium.
Health Savings Account (HSA):
Employees may contribute up to government limits using pre‑tax dollars to offset deductibles. The company does not contribute or match HSA funds.
Profit Sharing:
A SEP‑IRA profit‑sharing program is available and becomes effective after 3 years of employment.
Paid Time Off (PTO):
4 weeks of vacation annually
2 weeks of paid military leave per year for eligible employees
Vacation time does not accrue year to year; unused vacation may be considered in bonus calculations
Sick Leave:
Up to 6 days of non‑accrual paid sick leave may be forgiven annually at the discretion of company officers. Sick leave is evaluated individually and considered in bonus preparation.
Professional Development:
Seminar tuition is reimbursed upon satisfactory completion of approved classes
Time spent attending seminars is deducted as straight time from overtime compensation
Dues and Licenses:
The company pays for technical and professional society dues and license renewal fees, subject to executive committee approval
Salary Review:
Salaries are reviewed informally at least annually, and semi‑annually if warranted by growth and performance
