The Assistant Director, Finance position plays a critical role in the development, analysis, and management of the university’s annual operating budget, long‑term planning and monthly forecast. Develops and provides financial insight and reporting to senior leadership and the Board of Trustees. Collaborates with academic and administrative units and may supervise student interns.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. In collaboration with leader, manages the process and preparation of the university’s annual operating and minor capital budgets. Support the development of multi‑year financial forecasts aligned with institutional priorities.

2. Monitor and analyze budget‑to‑actual and forecast variances, flagging material deviations. Conduct variance analysis and provide insights for senior management review and decision‑making.

3. Perform the role of business partner with campus leaders to formulate strategic initiatives and special projects, including modeling of proposed actions and developing business cases aligned with university priorities.

4. Perform forward‑looking analyses to identify opportunities and challenges in the monthly forecast that may lead to proactive action steps taken by leadership to ensure the university meets its budgetary commitments.

5. Partner with academic and administrative units to review and update budgets and financial plans.

6. Develop internal reports and dashboards to enhance financial visibility and provide insights for decision‑making by executive leadership. Support the creation of financial content and exhibits for Board of Trustees meetings.

7. Direct the development of institutional financial models and scenario planning, ensuring alignment with budget strategy and resource allocation priorities.

8. Ensure data accuracy and integrity across budget, forecast, and reporting processes.

9. Assist with the maintenance and enhancement of the budget system and related tools.

10. Coordinate and provide training and guidance to budget users across campus.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related degree.

Minimum 6 years of progressive experience in budgeting, financial planning, or analysis.

Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.

Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial planning systems.

Experience communicating complex financial information to non‑financial audiences.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

MBA.
