Overview
The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) seeks a CDL Examiner Trainer to deliver classroom and hands‑on instruction to internal and third‑party examiners. The role supports training, policy consultation, route design, and quality assurance for CDL examinations.
Responsibilities
Conduct classroom instruction and LMS preparation for all commercial license classes.
Deliver initial and refresher training on CDL skills tests, administer tests across license classes, and provide instruction on the three portions of the CDL skills test.
Serve as an internal consultant on policies, procedures, and state/federal laws related to licensing knowledge and skills.
Perform site visits for co‑scoring, review CDL video storage, and support software systems such as CSTIMS and MCDL.
Review commercial vehicle test routes, recommend revisions, and design new test routes to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and relevant program experience required; equivalent education and experience may be accepted with prior approval.
Valid South Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class A or B; at least 21 years of age.
Proficiency in operating all classes of commercial vehicles; Class A license holders must obtain a Passenger (P) endorsement.
In‑depth knowledge of CDL examination administration and state/federal regulations.
Demonstrated instructor/trainer experience with adult learning methodologies.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Ability to coordinate, plan, implement, and evaluate training programs for effectiveness.
Proven ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues and the public.
Reports directly to the Examiner Training Team 1 Manager; operates independently with minimal supervision.
Works in climate‑controlled office and outdoor environments; may stand for extended periods and lift up to 15 pounds.
Overnight travel required.
