Training Coordinator I/Instructor/ CDL Examiner Trainer
Department: South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV)
Location: Driver Services/Examiner Training Unit, Department of Motor Vehicles Headquarters, Blythewood, SC
This position is a grant position for a period of 2 years.
Responsibilities
Conduct classroom instruction on all commercial license classes, including preparation and use of the Learning Management System; provide hands‑on training and demonstrations, evaluate examiners, and maintain proficiency in vehicle operation.
Deliver initial and refresher training for SCDMV and third‑party examiners on CDL skills tests and examinations, demonstrate proficiency across all license classes, and conduct evaluations and assessments to ensure compliance with testing standards.
Serve as an internal consultant on policies, procedures, and state and federal laws related to CDL licensing.
Conduct site visits to branch offices for co‑scoring purposes, review CDL video storage, and support administration and use of software systems such as CSTIMS and MCDL.
Review existing commercial vehicle test routes, recommend revisions, and propose new routes to ensure compliance, safety, and effectiveness.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and relevant program experience (or equivalent education and experience with prior approval).
Valid South Carolina Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A or B, at least 21 years old.
Proficiency in operating all classes of commercial vehicles.
Class A license holders must obtain a Passenger (P) endorsement.
Additional Requirements
In‑depth knowledge of CDL examination administration with strong understanding of state and federal regulations.
Demonstrated experience as an instructor/trainer, with expertise in instructional design and adult learning methodologies.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Skill in coordinating, planning, implementing, and evaluating training programs.
Ability to build productive relationships with colleagues and the public.
Reports directly to the Examiner Training Team 1 Manager, operating independently with minimal supervision.
Works in a climate‑controlled office and outdoors in varying weather; may stand extended periods and lift 10–15 lb, crawling, climbing; overnight travel required.
