Job Description

The Phlebotomy Technician is responsible for accurately performing and processing Point of Care Testing (POC) by venous and capillary blood collection from adults, infants, and children and all related functions. The position works Monday to Friday 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with rotational weekends. Pay range: $23.00–$28.00 / hour. Eligible for annual performance bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Collect blood and perform POC tests as assigned
  • Cleans and re‑stocks POC supplies and prepares phlebotomy carts/trays
  • Assists coworkers with draws and POC testing
  • Draw venous or capillary blood using aseptic techniques
  • Deliver all blood work (stat, timed, routine) within policy time frames
  • Enter blood into proper tubes and culture vials per test purpose
  • Perform and process all POC tests on patients ranging from newborn to geriatrics
  • Complete clerical functions associated with POC testing documents
  • Report incidents/issues to group leader or supervisor
  • Report supply needs and equipment defects timely
  • Log refrigerator temperatures daily, report out‑of‑range to supervisor
  • Travel to health fairs, PSA sites and deliver specimens to laboratory
  • Communicate with patients, parents, and primary caregivers at appropriate level
  • Adhere to clinic organizational competencies

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Medical training (medical assistant or paramedic training) preferred
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred; required in CA, NV, WA

Physical Requirements

  • Lift 1–15 lb frequently; 16–25 lb occasionally; 26–40 lb seldom; >41 lb not lifted without assistance
  • Sit or stand for long periods; eye and hand coordination required
  • Perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently
  • Travel required; extensive use of phone and PC
