Phlebotomy Technician

Location: Hastings, MN. Shift schedule: Monday, Thursday, Friday 9:00 AM–5:30 PM; Tuesday, Wednesday 10:30 AM–7:00 PM; rotating weekend shifts.

Pay: $23.00–$28.00 per hour. Eligible for annual performance bonus.

About the Role

The Phlebotomy Technician is responsible for accurately performing and processing Point of Care Testing (POC), venous and capillary blood collection from adults, infants, and children, and all related functions.

Responsibilities

  • Collect blood and/or perform POC as assigned
  • Clean and re‑stock POC supplies and prepare phlebotomy carts/trays
  • Assist coworkers with draws and POC testing
  • Draw venous or capillary blood from newborn through geriatric patients using aseptic techniques
  • Deliver all blood work (stat, timed, routine) within established departmental time frames
  • Draw venous and capillary blood into proper tubes and culture vials according to test purpose
  • Perform and process all POC tests on patients ranging from newborn to geriatrics
  • Complete clerical functions associated with POC testing documents
  • Report incidents/issues regarding patients or employees promptly to supervisor
  • Report supply needs and equipment defects in a timely manner
  • Log refrigerator temperatures daily and report if out of range
  • Travel and perform phlebotomy duties at health fair and PSA testing sites, delivering specimens to laboratory
  • Identify patient population needs and modify care accordingly, communicating with patient and caregivers
  • Adhere to clinic organizational competencies

Physical Requirements

  • Lift light to moderately heavy objects (1–15 lb frequently; 16–25 lb occasionally; 26–40 lb seldom; >41 lb without assistance)
  • Sit or stand for long periods; requires prolonged eye and hand coordination
  • Perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand throughout the day
  • Position requires travel
  • Extensive use of phone and PC
  • Fine dexterity with hands/steadiness
  • Walking, balancing, bending/kneeling, pushing/pulling, reaching/twisting

Knowledge, Education and Skills Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic preferred
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred; required in California, Nevada, Washington

Required Certification / Licensing

Phlebotomy certification as required by state regulations (California, Nevada, Washington).
