Base pay range:
$46,000.00/yr - $50,000.00/yr The Program
YWCA Sojourner's Shelter for Homeless Women & Families provides emergency shelter and supportive services around the clock, every day of the year, for homeless single women, women with children, men with custody of their children, and intact families. This 75-bed facility offers a secure, healthy environment with crisis intervention, case management, and counseling to help individuals achieve long-term self-sufficiency. We maintain a successful recidivism rate of about five (5) percent annually, well below the national average of individuals returning to shelters. Children’s programs include computer and art classes, tutoring, drug-free education, supportive counseling, and field trips. Recovering from and preventing future homelessness is our goal for all who take shelter with us. The
Assistant Director
provides onsite guidance and supervision to both staff and residents of the Sojourner’s Shelter. They will work with the Program Director to ensure compliance, physical safety, improvements, and overall maintenance of the facility. The Assistant Director’s objective is to promote growth, recovery, economic resources, and housing stabilization. Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in social work or related field, or equivalent in experience. Additional Requisites
Flexible schedule, including nights, holidays, and weekends. Strong management skills. Strong organization and communication skills. Knowledge of crisis intervention strategies. Ability to provide supportive counseling. Strong verbal and written communicator Knowledge of human/social service system guidelines. Responsibilities
Commitment to follow the YWCA of Charleston Employee Handbook as well as the rules, procedures, and protocols governing the YWCA Sojourner’s Shelter Program; including, but not limited to, maintenance of professional boundaries with clients and residents. Provide supervision and guidance to shelter direct service providers/management staff to achieve quality performance and keep the program director apprised of program needs, functions, and problems as they arise. Work professionally with residents, staff, and other agencies. Manage the shelter facility and enforce all rules and regulations. Assist the facility director in ensuring compliance with Health and Fire Department safety and maintenance of the shelter. Provide guidance and clear instructions when problem-solving issues that are resident-to-resident, staff-to-resident, and/or staff-to-staff related. Maintain accurate usage records of USDA weekly food donations. Maintain accurate records, reports, and statistical data. Interact with residents to facilitate disputes between residents, respond to grievances/concerns, and discuss violations of shelter guidelines, rules, and regulations. Accept crisis referrals in person and/or by telephone and make appropriate arrangements. Maintain an accurate weekly inventory of shelter supplies and purchases with the program director's approval. Transport supplies when necessary. Provide program director with statistics, invoices, and assist with program projects as assigned. Assist the program director with policy and program development. Provide the program director with information on staff performance quality or issues. Develop monthly schedules for non-traditional staff. Facilitate bi-weekly “IN-HOUSE” meetings with residents. Assist the program director with the hiring and discharging of employees when required. Train new employees regarding shelter activities, guidelines, procedures, and responsibilities. Attend and participate in all staff meetings and training. Assist Sojourner’s staff in times of emergencies. About YWCA Charleston
