Pharmacy Operations Manager

Responsibilities
Where state and federal laws/regulations allow, perform day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations and administrative activities; ensure efficient pharmacy workflow and a positive patient experience. Serve as a full-time certified pharmacy technician.
Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, supervise pharmacy technicians and pharmacy cashiers within authorized policies, laws, regulations, and business ethics.
Select, schedule, and develop pharmacy technician personnel. Lead training, coaching, and performance management of technicians. Make decisions regarding performance management including discipline and termination.
Engage customers and patients by greeting them, offering assistance with products and services, resolving complaints, responding to requests in a timely manner, and answering non-clinical questions to ensure a positive customer experience. Model and share customer service best practices.
Develop strong relationships with customers by anticipating needs and proactively offering services; enhance experience by focusing on healthcare services.
Assist pharmacist in patient care delivery including patient registration, prescription data entry, preparation of medications, counting, and verification where allowed by law. Complete patient and physician calls under pharmacist supervision; assist with vaccines, health screenings, and other services allowed by law.
Delegate, direct, and assign non-clinical work in the pharmacy within company policies and legal guidelines; ensure tasks are completed on time and maintain efficient workflow.
Prepare and file reports and records as required by the company and government agencies under direction of the Pharmacy Manager or pharmacist.
Manage core pharmacy workflow and daily schedules; allocate hours; ensure the pharmacy is clean, stocked, and orderly.
Manage inventory and recordkeeping; ensure compliance and security safeguards; monitor equipment operation and participate in rollouts of new technology/processes.
Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policies and ensure the elements of Good Faith Dispensing are met; communicate prescription errors to the pharmacist; align with Continuous Quality Improvement programs.
Support pharmacy financials, operational quality, and customer service; participate in community outreach and coordinate immunization clinics and events as directed.
People & Performance Management
Lead performance management of technicians, make recommendations regarding discipline and termination, and ensure compliance with state and federal laws.
Hire, on-board, train, and schedule technicians; monitor training completion and enforce scheduling policies.
Identify knowledge gaps and support team members with hands-on training or learning modules.
Monitor licensure, registrations, and certifications for compliance; use Walgreens resources to document licensure status.
Oversee recruitment, record retention, and training procedures in accordance with company policy and legal requirements.
Training & Personal Development
Maintain PTCB certification and other required certifications; pursue ongoing knowledge and skills in pharmacy and healthcare.
Obtain required certifications and participate in training programs; follow performance improvement plans as directed.
Seek professional development through self-assessment and mentorship opportunities.
Communication
Communicate with the pharmacy team and relay messages from support centers and other channels.
Participate in store/pharmacy meetings and regular check-ins with the Store Manager.
Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico).
At least one year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in retail or hospital settings.
Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (location-dependent).
Preferred Qualifications
Previous people management or leadership experience.
Previous Walgreens experience with an Exceeding Expectation on the last performance evaluation.
