Overview Pharmacy Operations Manager role involving non-clinical pharmacy operations, customer experience, and people management. Compliance with state and federal laws, policies, and ethics is required. This position is a full-time certified pharmacy technician role within Walgreens.

Responsibilities

Perform day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations and administrative activities where allowed by state and federal laws/regulations; ensure efficient pharmacy workflow and a positive patient experience; serve as a full-time certified pharmacy technician.

Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, supervise pharmacy technicians and cashiers within company policies, laws, and ethics.

Lead the selection, scheduling, and development of pharmacy technician personnel. Lead training, coaching, and performance management of technicians; make decisions regarding discipline and termination.

Engage customers and patients by greeting them, offering assistance with products and services, resolving complaints, and responding to non-clinical requests to ensure a positive customer experience. Model and share customer service best practices.

Assist pharmacist in patient care activities including patient registration, prescription data entry, medication preparation, counting, and verification (where allowed by law); complete patient and physician calls under pharmacist supervision; assist with vaccines, health screenings, and other health services allowed by law.

Delegate, direct, and assign non-clinical work in the pharmacy in accordance with policies and laws; manage on-time task completion and accountability for workflow.

Prepare and file reports required by the company and government agencies; manage core pharmacy workflow and daily schedule; ensure the pharmacy is clean, organized, and stocked.

Ensure compliance and execution of business administrative activities and inventory management; manage annual inventory preparation.

Maintain recordkeeping, security safeguards, and proper operation of pharmacy department equipment; support recordkeeping and security in collaboration with Pharmacy Manager.

Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policy during all applicable prescription-dispensing activities; understand and meet the elements of Good Faith Dispensing.

Monitor asset protection and report any concerns; communicate prescription errors to the accountable pharmacist and follow QC/CI procedures.

Ensure accurate processing of insurance claims, resolve customer issues, and participate in third-party audits; assist in improving pharmacy financials and customer service.

Manage Community Outreach Portal and coordinate pharmacist assignments to off-site immunization clinics and community events; build and maintain relationships with retail partners.

People & Performance Management

Lead performance management of technicians, including discipline decisions; apply constructive discipline policies; hold technicians accountable for attendance and timeliness; improve performance through engagement and action planning.

Hire, onboard, train, and schedule technicians; monitor training completion according to policy; ensure licensing/compliance status is active and in good standing.

Identify knowledge gaps and support team members through hands-on training or learning modules.

Assist in ensuring licensure, registrations, and certifications are up-to-date; leverage verification resources as needed.

Ensure recruitment, record retention, and training procedures comply with company policy and laws.

Training & Personal Development

Maintain PTCB certification or state-required certification/registration.

Maintain and enhance pharmacy and healthcare knowledge and skills.

Obtain necessary certifications and training; participate in performance improvement plans as directed.

Seek professional development, solicit feedback, and engage mentors for ongoing growth.

Qualifications

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.

PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico).

One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting.

Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).

Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (except in Community Specialty Pharmacy and Health System Pharmacy locations).

Preferred Qualifications

Previous people management/leadership experience.

Previous Walgreens experience with an Exceeding Expectation on last performance evaluation.
