Overview
The PRN Advanced Practice Professional (NP or PA) in Emergency Medicine at St. Joseph's Hospital is a PRN role within WVU Medicine, supporting the Emergency Medicine department with comprehensive management of patients and coordination of care. Responsibilities
Manage comprehensive and individualized care for emergency medicine patients and their families, coordinating hospitalization when necessary. Complete pre-procedure evaluations and integrated assessments. Order and interpret additional tests or consults as appropriate, following established clinical guidelines and protocols. Perform and communicate results of diagnostic tests according to scope of practice and guidelines. Consult with DEM clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings; document findings clearly in the medical record. Coordinate discharge planning and follow-up, including referrals to appropriate services. Develop comprehensive, individualized plans of care and educate patients and families; collaborate with the health care team for admission or follow-up as needed. Demonstrate expertise across the age continuum and escalate unstable or complex cases as appropriate. Maintain patient safety by recognizing emergency situations and initiating appropriate interventions. Collaborate with medical and nursing staff to solve problems and support professional development; participate in interdisciplinary approaches to care, program development, and education. Contribute to outcome measures collection and participate in clinical trials or research as applicable. Education, Certification, And Licensure
For Nurse Practitioners: Graduate of a CCNE-accredited nursing program with a Master's Degree in Nursing. National certification by a recognized APRN certifying body. Licensure or eligibility for licensure as an RN and APRN in West Virginia. American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and ATLS required. Experience:
Acute care or emergency medicine experience preferred; eligible new graduates may be considered. Preferred Qualifications:
ACNP or FNP considered. AHA PALs certification encouraged. For Physician Assistants:
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree from an ARC-PA approved PA program. Certification/licensure as a PA in West Virginia (or eligible). American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and ATLS required. Physical Requirements
Heavy/physical work; ability to lift and move patients and equipment; ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Working Environment
Collaborative environment with potential protracted or irregular hours; exposure to biohazards and infectious diseases. Working around the deceased and with equipment near patient care areas. Skills And Abilities
