The

Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency

(HHSA) partners with the community to protect and improve the health and wellbeing of Shasta County residents. HHSA is organized into four branches: Behavioral Health & Social Services, Public Health, Economic Mobility, and a centralized Administration Services. HHSA promotes optimal health for all. The frail, the abused, the mentally ill, and those without resources look to HHSA for services and resources to meet their basic needs, and to protect their health and safety. The Behavior Health & Social Services Branch

is dedicated to improving the well-being of our community through comprehensive mental health services and essential social services to adults, children, and families. By integrating both behavioral health and social support services, we strive to build a healthier community by ensuring individuals have the resources they need to achieve stability and wholeness. Children’s Services

encompass the services that help ensure children’s mental and physical well-being are protected and safe. The Child Welfare division investigates alleged abuse and neglect of children, and licenses foster and adoptive homes for children who are experiencing traumatic events; the branch also works within the Dependency Court to reunify families when appropriate. It includes children’s mental health teams that work with the Child Welfare division and community providers to address mental health and substance use challenges, and coordinates with juvenile justice and education to connect services for clients. Adult Services

focuses on services for people aged eighteen and older, including outpatient mental health care, 24-hour crisis stabilization, 24-hour crisis line, social rehabilitation residential services, long-term placement services, referrals to local non-profit organizations, and Adult Protective Services. It also includes In-Home Supportive Services, Public Authority registry for screened caregivers, Public Guardian, and Mental Health Services Act administration in the Adult Services Branch. About the Position

Clinical Psychologist I Under direction, to provide psychological diagnostic services and therapeutic counseling for children and adults; and to do related work as required. Clinical Psychologist II Under general direction, to provide psychological diagnostic services and therapeutic counseling and psychotherapy for children and adults; and to do related work as required. Special Requirement

Incumbents must be registered with the California Board of Psychology and have received a waiver of licensure from the California Department of Mental Health. Distinguishing Characteristics

Clinical Psychologist I

This is the entry-level class. Incumbents are fully trained but generally not given as broad a range of caseload program responsibility as more experienced psychologists; they consult closely with and receive clinical supervision from Clinical Psychologist III staff. They are registered with the California Board of Psychology and have a waiver of licensure from the California Department of Mental Health. Clinical Psychologist II

This is the experienced working level class. Employees carry a wider variety of caseloads and program responsibility and provide guidance to entry-level staff, including supervision of pre-licensure hours. Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in working with adults who live with severe persistent mental health issues and co-occurring (mental health and substance use) issues. They will be registered with the California Board of Psychology and have a Waiver of Licensure from the California Department of Mental Health. Responsibilities

Clinical Psychologist I/II

Makes psychological evaluations of referred cases; determines tests and diagnostic procedures; establishes a good working relationship with clients; conducts clinical interviews; administers and interprets a range of tests; performs psychotherapeutic counseling in group, family, and individual modalities; prepares diagnostic and treatment reports; may provide expert court testimony; participates in meetings and staff activities. Clinical Psychologist II

Provides California Board eligible supervision to Clinical Psychologist I staff; coordinates and plans programs; supervises and trains less experienced therapists; engages with the public through various media. Minimum Qualifications

Clinical Psychologist I : Completion of PhD in Psychology from an accredited college or university. Clinical Psychologist II : PhD in Psychology from an accredited college or university and two years of post-doctorate clinical psychology experience; knowledge of clinical supervision principles and State licensing board requirements. Clinical Psychologist I : Incumbents are registered with the California Board of Psychology with a waiver; must follow ethical and legal standards; up to five years to obtain a license or be terminated; a valid driver’s license may be required. Clinical Psychologist II : Incumbents are registered with the California Board of Psychology with a waiver; must maintain licensure; license as Clinical Psychologist issued by the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance; two or more years of experience with supervision qualifications; valid California driver’s license.
