The Assistant Project Manager (APM) will be a member of the operations team, helping drive delivery of network infrastructure and cabling projects within a site. The role requires development, management, customer engagement, operational and leadership skills. What You’ll Do
The Assistant Project Manager is accountable for effective project management and delivery. Work with the site team and the PM to develop the program schedule and establish milestones, ensuring financial and schedule targets align with customer goals. Assist the PM in identifying and acquiring resources as needed. During pre-construction, evaluate proposed materials for constructability and feasibility. Oversee and, when needed, prepare cost estimates at multiple stages. Initiate and coordinate design efforts and value engineering processes. Schedule the project in logical steps and budget time to meet deadlines. Determine labor requirements and deploy workers to construction sites. Facilitate travel for technicians to project sites. Coordinate with the superintendent. Inspect and review projects for compliance with codes and regulations. Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to staff, workers, and clients, representing the owner. Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions with designers, consultants, clients, suppliers and subcontractors. Obtain all necessary permits and licenses. Direct and supervise team members in the office and on site. Study job specifications to determine appropriate construction means and methods. Solicit and oversee material suppliers and subcontractors. Requisition supplies and materials to complete projects. Prepare and submit budget estimates and progress/cost tracking reports. Develop and implement quality control programs. Address delays, weather events, or emergencies at the site. Consult with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and designers to resolve matters such as work procedures and construction problems. Plan, organize, and direct activities related to construction and maintenance of structures and systems. Investigate damage or delays to ensure proper procedures are followed. Evaluate construction means and methods for cost-effectiveness. Manage, cost/budget, and oversee contract changes process. Develop and maintain the project schedule and financial plan. Prepare, maintain, and complete all aspects of the DL Way (project management playbook). Complete weekly and monthly reporting and projections. Train and develop the project team, handle invoicing, and manage equipment/material purchasing. Review job cost postings for accuracy, including invoices, customer collections, and financial reporting. Manage safety, environment, quality assurance, and material logistics as directed by the PM. Handle human resource issues per Company policies and escalate as needed. Coordinate with internal and external design, construction, network, and facility partners. Proactively communicate program status and risks to stakeholders; take corrective action as needed. Act as Company liaison to the client for the program, maintaining high client satisfaction and fostering collaboration. Be on site for active on-site project management responsibilities. What You’ll Need
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business management, electrical engineering, construction management or related experience. 1-3+ years of experience in construction management, data centers, or structured cabling. Track record of delivering mission-critical programs on time, within budget, and meeting quality and safety standards. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Contract negotiation/administration experience is a plus. Experience building and leading teams; mentoring direct reports and vendors. Strong organizational, time management, and cross-discipline coordination skills. Client engagement experience in similar programs is preferred. Understanding of program management fundamentals (earned value management, SPI, CPI, etc.). PMP or equivalent certification preferred. BICSI RCDD or similar telecommunications certifications preferred. Why CBRE
