Saint Mary of Nazareth Hospital Overview Medical Lab Technologist II is a position in the Clinical Laboratory working with waived, highly and moderately complex testing as defined by CLIA (42 CFR 493.1489). The role requires following laboratory procedures, maintaining quality control, and collaborating with the laboratory team to ensure accurate test results and patient safety. Responsibilities
Department: Clinical Lab Schedule: Nights - 10:30pm–7:00am; rotating holidays and weekends as per business needs Facility: St. Mary of Nazareth Location: Chicago, IL 60622 Perform waived, highly and moderately complex testing using both manual and automated methods in Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology and Immunology Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results Follow quality control policies and document corrective actions when test systems deviate from specifications Identify problems that may affect test performance and notify the supervisor, Director, or Medical Director as needed Maintain and document routine maintenance of instruments and equipment (daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed) Review the accuracy of patient results prior to release or reporting Recognize age-specific differences in expected results (from newborns to geriatrics) Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested consistently with patient samples; avoid collaboration with external laboratories prior to reporting results to agencies May be required to perform venipuncture or capillary puncture across age groups Assist in development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures Adhere to all department and hospital safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources policies In the absence of a supervisor, may serve as Lead Tech for the section or department during the shift Other tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the department manager/director Qualifications
Current and valid State License if required by the laboratory's location ASCP certification, or equivalent, preferred Associate Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or completion of coursework in an MLT program 3 years of hospital laboratory work experience required Pay and benefits are described separately by the employer.
