Overview
NURSE EXTERN II, FMFH - OBSERVATION UNIT Location: US:WI:MENOMONEE FALLS at our FROEDTERT MEN FALLS HOSPITAL facility. This job is on-site. FTE: 0.001000. Shift: Shift 4. Job Summary: Under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, the Nurse Extern provides routine care and assists patients with activities of daily living. Responsible to the Patient Care Director of the assigned unit and the RNs on duty on each assigned shift. Other duties as assigned. Note: The role details, including experience, education, licensure, and required skills, are described in the Qualifications section below.
Responsibilities
Provide routine patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Assist patients with activities of daily living as assigned on the unit. Support the care team on the assigned shift and communicate patient needs to the RN on duty. Follow directions related to basic patient care and documentation as required by the unit.
Qualifications
Experience:
A minimum of two acute care medical-surgical clinical rotations (or one medical-surgical rotation and one pertinent clinical rotation) from an accredited nursing school, or one medical-surgical rotation plus relevant work experience. At least one clinical rotation must include medication administration. Six months or more experience as a nursing assistant is preferred. Education:
Currently enrolled in an accredited School of Nursing, or a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing waiting to retake the NCLEX exam. Special Skills:
Ability to read, write, understand, perform simple arithmetic, and follow directions related to basic patient care. Interpersonal skills to interact with patients, visitors, and physicians. Ability to perform simple numerical comparisons; demonstrate capability in at least 60 percent of essential functions; maintain focus for about 80 percent of work time; able to walk and stand for up to 80 percent of work time; able to lift and position patients for up to 20 percent of work time. Licensure:
Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Certification preferred; if not held, provide documentation of successful completion of the basic nursing course per the Wisconsin administrative code. AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) or equivalent is required within 90 days of hire.
