Overview

The New Mexico Veterans Healthcare System is seeking a full-time Geriatric Nurse Practitioner to join our Team to help transform how we provide healthcare. We have positions throughout New Mexico that may align with the geographic preference that you are seeking. Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive geriatric care to a panel of elderly patients. Utilize the PACT Model to ensure coordinated and continuous care. Utilize Tele-health resources to deliver distant care. Manage primary and subspecialty care needs, ensuring high-quality standards. Write orders for diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and refer consultations to specialty services using electronic medical records. Conduct new employee physicals and assess work-related injuries when required. Take patient histories, perform physical exams, order laboratory and diagnostic studies, diagnose, and formulate treatment plans. Document all medical information in an electronic medical record. Prescribe medications within VA formulary guidelines and refer patients to specialty care services as needed. Admit patients to hospital care when indicated and provide patient education and counseling. Collaborate with other nurse practitioners and/or physician assistants within the PACT to ensure patients always have access to care. Contribute to quality-of-care standards, efficiency, process improvement, and patient satisfaction. Adhere to accepted professional standards, organizational values, and a commitment to excellent customer service. Requirements and Qualifications

U.S. Citizenship: non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP). Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process. Subject to background/security investigation. One full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory to practice as a nurse practitioner, with a master's degree from an NLNAC/CCNE-accredited program and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or equivalent body. Pay and Benefits

Competitive salary, regular salary increases, and potential for performance awards. Paid Time Off: 50 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 federal holidays). Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% VA contributions. Insurance: Federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care insurance programs (many can be carried into retirement). Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Current, full, active, and unrestricted nursing registration in a U.S. state or territory or District of Columbia. Graduate degree in nursing (MSN or equivalent) from an accredited program; certification as a nurse practitioner from a recognized certifying body.
