Overview Base pay range: $5,928.00/yr - $8,493.00/yr. Job Requisition ID: 50449. Closing Date: 10/14/2025. Agency: Department of Agriculture. Class Title: VETERINARIAN I - 47901. Salary: $5,928 - $8,493 anticipated starting salary monthly. Job Type: Salaried. Category: Full Time. County: Ogle; Boone; Bureau; Carroll; Cook; DeKalb; DuPage; Jo Daviess; Kane; LaSalle; Lake; Lee; McHenry; Stephenson; Whiteside; Winnebago. Number of Vacancies: 1. Bargaining Unit Code: RC063. This position is a union position; provisions of the relevant collective bargaining agreement apply. This position serves in a regional capacity and requires residency in one of the designated counties and work from a home location as a base of daily operations to service designated worksites.
Essential Functions
Travels within an assigned territory to conduct disease investigations and collect samples for foreign animal, emerging, and program diseases.
Assists in maintaining disease program and identification databases to advance animal disease traceability.
Travels within an assigned territory to perform inspections on auction markets, rendering plants and trucks, livestock dealers, and other animal health licensees.
Travels within an assigned territory to conduct initial pullorum typhoid testing on flocks enrolling in the National Poultry Improvement Plan.
Travels within an assigned territory to conduct limited livestock humane care investigations.
Travels within an assigned territory to assist animal and animal product investigators on inspections or investigations when further veterinary evaluation is necessary.
Contacts owners and veterinarians regarding reportable diseases as assigned.
Works with partner agencies and stakeholders to facilitate emergency preparedness, including maintaining the premises database, developing response plans, and communicating with local emergency managers and the state emergency operations center.
Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of duties outlined above.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from an accredited college of veterinary medicine.
Conditions of Employment
Valid driver's license and ability to travel in performance of duties.
Ability to travel overnight and long distances.
Ability to work in adverse conditions including inclement weather and livestock settings.
Pre-employment physical, including drug and alcohol screening.
Background check and disclosure of criminal history.
Category II federally accredited Veterinarian.
Illinois license to practice veterinary medicine.
Residency in Ogle or contiguous counties as specified.
Fit testing for a respirator as part of pre-employment physical.
Work Hours & Location Work Hours: 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday
