Data Center Cluster Operations Leader, North Carolina, AMER MLZs
The AWS Infrastructure Operations team seeks a Senior Manager to lead a large organization responsible for data center facility infrastructure and the operational availability of mechanical, electrical, and (MEP) systems. This senior leadership role combines strategic management with hands-on execution to meet safety, security, availability, scaling, and efficiency goals across AWS data center operations.
Responsibilities
Hiring, managing, and developing the operations management team, including facilities managers, chief engineering managers, and engineering operations technicians.
Attainment of organizational performance goals relating to safety, security, availability, scaling, and efficiency in support of data center operations.
Plan and execute the Infrastructure Operations component of new AWS data center builds, colocation builds, expansions, and related infrastructure, covering mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
Operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, and controls systems, including preventive and corrective maintenance and change management.
Vendor management of colocation data center service providers to meet or exceed contracted SLAs.
Oversee preventive maintenance programs and adherence to schedules, plus evaluation and performance of supporting infrastructure.
Balance insourcing and/or outsourcing maintenance tasks to optimize internal skills and cost efficiency.
Safety, security, incident response, incident management, and incident resolution for data center operations.
Continuous improvement of operational processes, procedures, methods, and tools.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
10+ years of relevant experience managing data center operations, facility engineering operations, critical environment facilities, data center build-outs and scaling, or related fields
6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience, with experience managing managers
Preferred Qualifications
Experience hiring, developing, and managing high-performing technical teams
Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
Experience in Data Center Engineering Operations with a deep understanding of electrical and mechanical data center infrastructure
Knowledge of IT infrastructure domains such as compute, storage, networking, IT service delivery principles and best practices
Ability to operate independently as a manager of a geographically distributed Infrastructure Operations team

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $164,100/year to $313,300/year, depending on market location and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
