CFO’s Domain is a national accounting & finance consulting and recruiting organization serving CFO’s and their stakeholders. Our consultants are among the best practitioners in the marketplace, serving clients across a diverse range of industries and stages of growth. Our consultants serve clients with mission critical deliverables when they are experiencing capacity or capability constraints. Our consultants receive benefits, competitive compensation, gain access to the full breadth of our recruiting capabilities and are introduced to roles that are accretive to their personal and professional growth.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
Our client, a San Diego-based aerospace company, is seeking an Interim FP&A Manager to support ongoing forecasting, budgeting, and proposal pricing processes while helping to modernize Excel models and streamline cost analysis workflows used in government RFP responses. This role will also provide backup coverage for core accounting functions during temporary staff absences, including AR aging updates and simple GL entries. The ideal consultant has a manufacturing background, strong Excel modeling experience, and the ability to partner cross-functionally with supply chain, cost accounting, and operations. This is a full-time Interim role with hybrid flexibility (on-site approximately three days per week).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operational FP&A Support:
Lead monthly forecast and AOP (annual operating plan) updates.
Consolidate cost, labor, and material data to prepare forecasts for active programs and value streams.
Identify risks and opportunities impacting margin, scrap, or labor variances.
Partner with proposal, supply chain, and cost accounting teams to analyze RFPs, extract cost data, and prepare competitive pricing.
Review historical data (3+ years) from ERP to benchmark direct labor, materials, and overhead rates.
Support Truth in Negotiations Act (TINA) compliance and cost-disclosure requirements for government proposals.
Improve and simplify Excel-based cost/pricing models — creating scalable, repeatable templates and standardizing footnotes across tabs.
Accounting & Controllership Coverage:
Support basic GL activities by posting journal entries, verifying reconciliations, and ensuring transactions tick and tie.
Maintain simple AR aging schedules and participate in calls to review outstanding items.
Collaborate with the Controller and Cost Accountant to ensure continuity of accounting operations during staff leave.
Cross-Functional Business Partnering:
Act as a bridge between finance, operations, and supply chain; maintain communication with program managers to stay informed on production, materials, and revenue timing.
Support indirect rate modeling and government cost accounting compliance.
Assist in building repeatable FP&A processes for forecasting and proposal analysis that can scale as the business grows.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
8–15+ years of progressive finance or FP&A experience in manufacturing or aerospace/defense environments.
Advanced Excel modeling (pivot tables, lookups, nested formulas, sensitivity analysis).
Experience working with ERP systems supporting manufacturing (ManMade ERP preferred; exposure to inventory, BOMs, and job costing).
Familiarity with indirect rate modeling and government proposal pricing preferred.
Proficiency in advanced excel skills — comfortable creating, modifying, and optimizing financial models and analytical workbooks.
Solid grasp of cost structures, overhead allocation, and project-based financials.
Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting.
Comfortable communicating financial insights to non-financial stakeholders.
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage competing priorities in a dynamic setting.
