Legal Practice Assistant

The Legal Practice Assistant (LPA) provides administrative support to attorneys on a daily basis, working closely with clients and team members to ensure efficient and timely handling of legal matters.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Drafting, reviewing, and revising documents such as correspondence, pleadings, memoranda, budgets, and presentations
Formatting and filing court pleadings in compliance with applicable rules, including generating tables of authorities and contents
Arranging service of pleadings and subpoenas
Assisting with scheduling and preparation for meetings, conferences, and travel
Organizing case documents and preparing binders and files
Reviewing and routing incoming correspondence (physical and electronic)
Tracking and managing projects
Maintaining office and attorney calendars, partnering with docketing as needed
Entering attorney billable time and coordinating with billing staff for timely invoice review
Proofreading and editing documents for accuracy and consistency
Preparing check requests, expense reports, and vendor payments
Booking travel arrangements
Providing backup litigation secretarial coverage during absences
Supporting business development initiatives
Maintaining professionalism and composure in high‑pressure situations
Building strong working relationships with clients and occasionally traveling to client sites
Collaborating with colleagues across all levels
Working overtime as necessary to meet deadlines
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate preferred
10+ years of legal secretary / legal assistant experience
Recent litigation experience in California state and federal courts required; appellate experience preferred
Strong client service skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment while managing multiple priorities
Proactive and independent, yet able to work effectively as part of a team
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365
Experience with Teams, iManage, Best Authority, CCC Macros, time and billing systems, CompuLaw, and Adobe Professional preferred
