Nursing Assistant Certified
position at the historic Washington Soldiers Home in Orting, Washington. This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step L. Step M has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules. Updated as of July 1, 2025: This position is eligible for Supplement Basic Shift Premium for 24/7 facilities. Employees who are assigned to a facility that provides direct care to residents, patients, and/or clients and whose duties are required to be performed on location will receive an additional one dollar ($1.00) per hour of supplemental basic shift premium for each hour of basic shift premium. This shift premium does not apply to overtime hours. The supplementary basic shift premium shall expire on June 29, 2027. Responsibilities
Assist or supervise assigned residents with activities of daily living under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. Promote resident-centered care and ensure Veterans are treated with dignity and respect. Assist residents with personal care and daily living activities such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and eating. Accurately obtain and record vital signs and other resident data. Observe, document, and report changes in a resident's condition or behavior to the licensed practical nurse. And more! Qualifications
A combination of education and experience may be considered on a year-for-year basis. Experience must be relevant to the position. Valid Washington state license to practice as a nursing assistant certified. Six (6) months of experience involving customer service in a healthcare setting or six (6) months of experience involving direct patient care. Must be proficient in the English language and able to read, write, and speak English. Preferred/Desirable
Long-term nursing care experience. Special Requirements
Must pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to beginning services and every two years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000 Background Checks. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining suitability and competence. Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening in accordance with DVA policy 670.000 Tuberculosis Testing. Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by the Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards. Must be able to wear a respirator, medical gloves, gowns, eye protection, and other PPE as required by a job or task. Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and reach up to 36 inches to stock shelves and access supplies. Able to push/pull with sufficient strength and to walk, sit, and bend during the workday. Must be able to read, write, and speak English for medical charts and data entry. Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver’s license and be insured if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business.
