The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs all general Nuclear Medicine procedures. This includes all aspects of scanner operation, QC protocols, IV skill validation, and patient preparation. This position is knowledgeable of Radiation Safety and record-keeping required. Essential Job Functions
Assures that a written physician order is received prior to an exam performance and proper patient identification is performed. Assists Radiologist/physician with patient exams, collects all pertinent information and correlating studies, and notifies Radiologist of any circumstances which may alter the exam protocol and performance. Prepares pharmaceutical vials for injection, calculates and measures radioactive dosages accurately, and administers orally or by intravenous (IV) injection the correct diagnostic or therapeutic dosages and completes all required records. Maintains accurate and complete records of all radioactive material received, dispensed, decayed, and disposed of. Selects technical factors and operates equipment to produce quality exams and administers proper use of all radiation safety devices, techniques, and procedures. Maintains and monitors Nuclear Medicine hot lab and clinical computer database and functions. Reviews images for completeness and quality according to Radiologists’ preference and distributes the images via the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS). Understands the use of PACS and teleradiology for after-hours exam interpretations. Demonstrates regard for patient safety and comfort. Provides education appropriate to patient procedure and within scope of responsibility. Performs monitoring techniques and radiation clean-up procedures for radioactive contamination and required clean-up. Does appropriate paperwork for decontamination and clean-up procedures. Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization. Certification
