Job Overview Within our Retail locations, Pharmacy Technicians play a critical role in supporting our pharmacy teams to consistently deliver on our brand promise. Technicians are often the first point of contact to assist our patients and customers to deliver an exceptional experience. They help ensure pharmacy operations run smoothly, prescriptions are filled promptly, safely and accurately, and we provide caring service that exceeds patient expectations.
Technicians operate as part of the pharmacy team through consistent application of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices, and effective communication. They contribute to a safe and inclusive culture where all people feel valued and empowered.
Responsibilities
Support the pharmacy team in delivering operational and service excellence within the store
Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick-up, drive-thru, drop-off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment
Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone; offer immunizations and other services at the register and over the phone; resolve or escalate patient problems
Complete basic inventory activities as permitted by law and directed by the leadership team (e.g., stocking deliveries, cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, waiting bin inventories)
Contribute to a high-performing team, embrace a growth mindset, and seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge
Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs; may travel to stores in the market to work shifts as needed
Understand and comply with all relevant laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles; comply with CVS policies to ensure patient safety and privacy
Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing) where allowable by law and supported by training and certification
Immunization Support (Where Permissible)
Complete licensure and training requirements to obtain Technician Immunizer status for preparing and administering vaccines
Educate patients about vaccines and refer to the Pharmacist-on-duty for vaccination questions
Monitor for adverse reactions and report per public health requirements
Review and collect patient information; track and document for each applicable patient
Monitor and manage vaccine supplies
Required Qualifications
Must comply with state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy
If the state board does not address a minimum age requirement, must be at least 16 years of age
If the state board does not address a minimum educational requirement, must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in high school or a high school equivalency program
State-level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state
Essential Functions
Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends
Ability to complete required training within designated timeframe
Attention and Focus:
Concentrate on a task over a period of time
Pivot quickly between tasks to meet patient and business needs
Confirm prescription information and label accuracy to ensure patient safety
Customer Service and Team Orientation:
Help people in a friendly manner
Notice and understand patients’ reactions and respond appropriately
Communication Skills:
Interact with patients and colleagues using verbal and written communication
Active listening to understand points being made and ask appropriate questions
Mathematical Reasoning:
Compute days’ supply, total tablets, and bottles needed to fill a prescription
Problem Resolution:
Identify challenging interactions and choose appropriate actions
Physical Demands:
Be mobile, lift, scan, bag items, reach overhead, and stand for extended periods
Fine motor skills for repetitive finger movements and precise handling
Close visual acuity for reading and computer tasks
Occasionally lift up to 20 lbs; frequently lift up to 10 lbs
Receive detailed information through oral communication
Additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager
Preferred Qualifications
1-3 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician
Experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting
Ability to work in the home store and across the market to meet business needs
Anticipated Weekly Hours 40
Time Type Full time
Pay Range The Typical Pay Range For This Role Is $18.70 - $27.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.
