5 Henson Hall Tower is a general medical/surgical unit that specializes in Orthopedic patients, though we also care for general medical patients. It is a 27-bed unit. All patient rooms are private and configured in a racetrack layout. Patients range in age from neonates to 18 years. We occasionally treat young adults. Primary diagnoses
Blount’s Cerebral Palsy Clubfoot Developmental and Congenital Hip Disorders Hand Anomalies Joint Infections Limb Length Discrepancy Neuromuscular Disorders Spina Bifida Spine Deformities Trauma-Related Injuries Responsibilities
Utilizes the nursing process to develop and implement a safe, high quality, comprehensive, and age-appropriate plan of care for the patient and family that promotes optimal patient outcomes. Meets the educational needs of the patient and family and advocates for their needs. Maintains an environment that is safe, comfortable, efficient, and family-centered. Utilizes current research and evidence for practice to expand personal professional knowledge, enhance role performance, and improve nursing care quality. Qualifications
Associate's Degree: Current employees hired before September 1, 2013 are grandfathered and permitted to continue in the direct care nursing role. No Experience necessary / On-the-Job Training Bachelor's Degree Preferred for all direct care nurses hired after September 1, 2013. Those without a BSN must complete their degree within 5 years of their hire date. No Experience necessary / On-the-Job Training Licensed RN - Kansas or Multistate License (Kansas) required upon hire Licensed RN - Missouri or Multistate License (Missouri) required upon hire RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO Employees must obtain Licensed RN - Kansas or equivalent within 90 days Life Support Certifications required upon hire (see Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy) Specialty Certification relevant to unit's patient population (determined by Nurse Manager/Director) preferred upon hire Immunization and safety
Seasonal influenza vaccine is a condition of employment for all employees. New employees must be willing to be vaccinated if non-immune to MMR and/or varicella, and/or without evidence of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccination since 2005.
