GAI Consultants is looking for a technically diversified Geology Manager 1 for the Geotechnical Engineering Group in Pittsburgh, PA, Canton, OH, Charleston, WV, or Richmond, VA areas. This position serves as a Subject Matter Expert/Project Advisor to the Power Generation Business Sector and all GAI service groups (including Infrastructure/Transportation, Community Development, Environmental, Water Resources, and Power Delivery). An ideal candidate will have experience developing client and business relationships and providing staff management and engineering geology expertise across a diverse range of multi-disciplined design and construction projects. This candidate will perform project planning, design, and engineering geology services for Energy, Institutional, Industrial, Manufacturing, Municipal, and Transportation clients. Responsibilities

Your responsibilities in this position include leading and managing geotechnical projects and staff within the Power Generation Group and for clients served by GAI, as well as business development initiatives. The successful candidate will be assigned to an office but will be eligible for a hybrid work schedule. Some travel will be required to various project sites and client meetings. Essential Duties: Lead and manage projects primarily for Geotechnical Market. Serve as technical lead for engineering and geology tasks in their area of expertise. Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to the geotechnical group. Manage and mentor staff. Inspire and encourage employees to perform their best. Assign and supervise specific work tasks. Allocate resources within a team, department, group, or division. Lead teams to successfully execute all assigned projects. Review deliverables prior to submitting them to clients. Participate in and develop recruitment and retainment strategies for staff of all levels to help grow the Geotechnical Engineering Group. Provide design, management, and technical direction and oversight associated with geotechnical components on multi-discipline design and construction projects. Develop appropriate design alternatives for complex geotechnical projects that consider realistic requirements, constraints, community input, permitting, and other regulatory constraints. Integrate advanced concepts, including sustainability, to solve complex problems. Develop proposals, proposal budgets and schedules. Coordinate, schedule, and manage payment of subcontractors (e.g., for drilling test borings, geophysical testing, and laboratory testing). Deliver the scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and profitability of all projects managed. Plan and manage projects and multiple projects at one time. Work with Accounting staff to monitor and control project costs and billings to meet budgeted profit, analyze project performance data, and develop recovery plans as needed. Collaborate with others within the GAI Power Generation Business Sector to develop and execute a business plan. Function as a seller/doer. Identify, chase, and successfully win new business opportunities with existing and new clients. Business Development Responsibilities: Up to 25% of job duties will be dedicated to Business Development. Build relationships with Energy, Institutional, Industrial, Manufacturing, Municipal, and Transportation clients and internal clients within GAI's Business Sectors. Lead business development pursuits and develop statements of qualifications and proposed project scopes of work, schedules, budgets, and fees. Develop an understanding of and market the services GAI performs. Serve as client contact for projects managed. Win new work from both new and existing clients by building and maintaining customer relationships, monitoring future work opportunities while communicating regularly, and attending client events, professional society/industry association events. Work closely with GAI leadership and other PMs to coordinate and develop the proposed scope, schedule, and fee for Geotech tasks and/or entire projects. Support senior management in contract negotiations with clients. Represent GAI at important functions or conferences. General Characteristics Begins to become well-rounded with aspects of consulting, industry standards, and company protocols. Position requires a strong emphasis on client development; participation in professional societies and industry associations is preferred. Coming up with ideas to improve productivity of a specific team, department, group, or division. Strategic thinking and alignment: Manager must understand broader organizational strategies and goals to effectively guide direct reports' efforts. Change leadership: Manager plays an important role enacting top-level changes across operational divisions as supporters of change. Experience and Education Minimum 12+ years of experience. Education B.S. or M.S. Geology Certification/Licensure Driver's License Technical Responsibilities Continues to show progress in oversight and coordination of project tasks. Available to junior staff for guidance. Provides opportunities to junior staff for becoming familiar with task management and financials. Working knowledge of project contract documents. Recruiting and retaining staff. Interpreting the strategy of top-level management and translating it into everyday policies. Developing and implementing day-to-day routines for a team, department, group, or division.
