Overview

GAI Consultants is looking for a technically diversified Geology Manager 1 for the Geotechnical Engineering Group in Pittsburgh, PA, Canton, OH, Charleston, WV, or Richmond, VA areas. This position serves as a Subject Matter Expert/Project Advisor to the Power Generation Business Sector and all GAI service groups (including Infrastructure/Transportation, Community Development, Environmental, Water Resources, and Power Delivery). The candidate will develop client and business relationships and provide staff management and engineering geology expertise across a range of multi-disciplined design and construction projects. This candidate will perform project planning, design, and engineering geology services for Energy, Institutional, Industrial, Manufacturing, Municipal, and Transportation clients. The role involves leading a range of geotechnical projects and staff, and participating in business development initiatives. The successful candidate will be assigned to an office but will be eligible for a hybrid work schedule. Some travel will be required to project sites and client meetings. Responsibilities

Lead and manage projects primarily for the Geotechnical Market. Serve as technical lead for engineering and geology tasks in their area of expertise. Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to the geotechnical group. Manage and mentor staff; inspire and encourage employees to perform their best. Assign and supervise specific work tasks; allocate resources within a team, department, group, or division. Lead teams to successfully execute all assigned projects; review deliverables prior to client submissions. Participate in recruitment and retention strategies for the Geotechnical Engineering Group. Provide design, management, and technical direction for geotechnical components on multi-discipline projects. Develop design alternatives for complex geotechnical projects considering requirements, constraints, permitting, and regulatory factors. Integrate advanced concepts, including sustainability, to solve complex problems. Develop proposals, budgets and schedules; coordinate and manage subcontractor work (e.g., drilling, testing). Deliver scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and profitability of all projects; plan and manage multiple projects. Monitor project costs and billings with Accounting; analyze performance data and develop recovery plans as needed. Collaborate with other teams within the Power Generation Business Sector to develop and execute a business plan. Function as a seller/doer; identify and win new business opportunities with existing and new clients. Business Development Responsibilities

Up to 25% of duties dedicated to Business Development. Build relationships with Energy, Institutional, Industrial, Manufacturing, Municipal, and Transportation clients and internal clients within GAI's business sectors. Lead business development pursuits and develop statements of qualifications and scopes of work, schedules, budgets, and fees. Develop understanding of and market the services GAI performs. Serve as client contact for projects managed; win new work by building relationships and monitoring future opportunities. Coordinate with GAI leadership and PMs to develop proposed scope, schedule, and fee for geotechnical tasks or entire projects. Support senior management in contract negotiations with clients. Represent GAI at important functions or conferences. General Characteristics

B.S. or M.S. Geology Licensure and Certifications

Provide ongoing oversight and coordination of project tasks; available for junior staff guidance. Foster opportunities for junior staff to become familiar with task management and financials; working knowledge of project contract documents. Recruiting and retaining staff; translating top-level strategy into day-to-day policies. Develop routines for a team or division. Talent development: develop staff skills and empower them as problem-solvers to boost innovation and productivity. Oversee learning, coaching, and career progression. Management Responsibility
