Overview

Certified Medical Dosimetrist - Proton Therapy System Coming Soon! Join Stanford Health Care as a Certified Medical Dosimetrist, Proton Therapy System Coming Soon! Under the supervision of the Chief Dosimetrist, the Clinical Chief Physicist, and the Director of Radiation Oncology Operations, the Medical Dosimetrist develops optimal treatment plans for cancer patients that maximize tumor dose while minimizing dose to normal tissues, and supports related patient care activities, staff and resident education. Dosimetrists are part of the radiation oncology treatment team, using mathematics, medical physics, science, and critical thinking to measure and generate radiation dose distributions and calculations. They design treatment plans with consideration of tumor pathology and surrounding structures, and work with radiation oncologists, Medical Physicists, and Radiation Therapists to implement the plan. What You Will Do

Design an optimized patient treatment plan by means of computer and/or manual computation with optimal beam geometry to deliver a prescribed radiation dose and spare critical structures in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist's prescription. Identify and contour normal and dose-limiting structures using imaging data (CT, MRI, PET) and perform Image Registration as needed. Create and transfer reference images and localization markers for portal verification and treatment delivery, including DRRs, CBCTs and other IGRT methods. Supervise, perform, or assist in simulations and tumor localization using imaging devices (CT, MRI, PET). Plan and implement the fabrication of beam-modifying devices (compensation filters, shields, wedges) and immobilization devices. Collaborate with radiation therapists during simulation and treatment on immobilization, setup reproducibility, and field arrangements. Perform calculations for accurate dose delivery, document information in patient records, and verify mathematical accuracy of calculations. Provide assistance and technical support to the Medical Physicist in radiation safety, machine calibrations, quality assurance of treatment plans and equipment. Operate and perform QA on treatment planning computers under the direction of the Chief Dosimetrist. Assist in brachytherapy planning and dose calculations; may assist with receiving, loading, and shipping of radioactive materials. Utilize radiation monitoring devices and contribute to clinical research, continuing education, and quality improvement processes. Education Qualifications
