Job Description
The Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) functions under the direction of a licensed professional nurse (nurse). Under the supervision of the nurse, CNAs perform care appropriate to the patient population served and meet daily routine patient care needs. The CNA performs duties based on the unit care delivery model and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to deliver care as outlined by the nurse. The CNA adheres to a culture reflective of Centra's best practices for quality and service, creates and maintains a safe patient environment, and contributes to a healthy work environment. The CNA’s practice reflects the laws and regulations for a Certified Nurse Aide as outlined by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Responsibilities
Provide and document patient care under the direction of the registered or licensed practical nurse as outlined in the plan of care, including activities of daily living such as meals, bathing, ambulating, toileting, and repositioning. Assist with maintaining patient stability by checking and recording vital signs and documenting intake and output. Promote patient comfort by answering call lights (if applicable to work area) and communicating observations or patient needs to nursing staff. Contribute to a safe and efficient admission, transfer, and/or discharge process. Maintain patient rights to comfort, privacy, and dignity while providing care. Create and maintain a clean and safe environment on the unit and within patient rooms and areas protecting patients from harm. Follow organizational policies and procedures when delivering care and interacting with other caregivers. May handle medication delivered by the Pharmacy directly or via the pneumatic tube system and transport the medication to an appropriate storage area or to a qualified employee who can administer medication (if applicable). Apply unit service excellence best practices when approaching patients, visitors, physicians, and colleagues. Use resources (time, people, supplies, etc.) cost effectively. Participate in quality and performance improvement initiatives resulting from evidence‑based literature and/or unit‑based metrics, providing care consistent with regulatory and legal expectations and standards. Consistently practice Centra safety behaviors. Handle conflict resolution opportunities in an appropriate, timely, and consistent manner. Engage in professional development through self‑appraisal and earning academic credits or attending educational programs. Qualifications
Certified as a Nurse Aide by the Department of Health Professions of Virginia; AHA BLS CPR completion. Minimum 1 year of recent acute care experience. Valid Virginia Driver’s License. High School Diploma / GED (preferred). Additional Experience
Various regulated CNA positions in cardiology, home health, hospice, and oncology settings share core CNA responsibilities and require at least one year of CNA experience. All positions require a valid Virginia Driver’s License and support 100% travel (as applicable).
