Overview
Where state and federal laws/regulations allow, accountable for performing day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations, administrative activities; Ensures efficient pharmacy workflow and a positive patient experience. Serves as a full-time certified pharmacy technician. Responsibilities
Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, supervise pharmacy technicians and pharmacy cashiers within the guidelines of authorized company policies, laws, regulations and business ethics. Oversee the selection, scheduling, and development of pharmacy technician personnel. Lead training, coaching, and performance management of pharmacy technicians. Make decisions regarding performance management including discipline and termination. Customer Experience
Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer complaints, respond to customers’ requests in a timely manner, and answer non-clinical questions to ensure a positive customer experience. Model and share customer service best practices. Develop strong relationships with customers by anticipating needs and proactively offering services to provide the best experience possible when using the pharmacy. Operations
Assist pharmacist in the delivery of patient care including patient registration, prescription data entry, preparation of medications, counting, and verification (where allowed by law). Complete patient and physician calls under the supervision of a pharmacist (where allowed by law). Assist with healthcare service offerings including administering vaccines, health screenings, and any health services allowed by law. Delegate, direct, and assign non-clinical work in the pharmacy within company policies and laws to ensure on-time tasks and efficient workflow. Prepare and file reports and records required by the company and various government agencies under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager or pharmacist. Manage core pharmacy workflow, coordinate daily activities, and ensure the pharmacy is well-stocked and orderly. Assist with inventory management and annual inventory preparation. Ensure compliance and proper execution of business administrative activities and inventory tasks under pharmacist direction. Maintain proper operation and security of pharmacy department equipment; support recordkeeping and security safeguards in collaboration with the Pharmacy Manager. Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policies during all applicable prescription-dispensing activities and understand the role in ensuring these elements are met. Monitor asset protection and report any concerns that could compromise pharmacy security to the Pharmacy Manager. Communicate prescription errors to the accountable pharmacist and follow company policies and procedures related to pharmacy errors and the Continuous Quality Improvement Program. Ensure accurate processing of insurance claims to resolve customer issues and prevent payment rejections; follow up with insurance companies and providers and participate in 3rd party audit. Assist and support Store Manager and Pharmacy Manager in analyzing and improving pharmacy financials, operational quality, and customer service. Manage Community Outreach Portal and coordinate off-site immunization clinics and community events; build and sustain relationships with retail partners. People & Performance Management
Lead performance management of technicians, including discipline and termination decisions; apply constructive discipline policies and ensure compliance with state and federal laws. Hold technicians accountable for attendance and timeliness; drive engagement and performance through coaching and action planning. Oversee technician hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling; monitor training completion and adhere to scheduling and training policies. Identify gaps in operations knowledge among team members and support training through hands-on coaching or learning modules. Monitor licensures, registrations, and certifications for pharmacy staff; verify status using Walgreens resources and ensure regulatory compliance. Ensure proper procedures for selection, recruitment, record retention, and training as required by company policy and law. Training & Personal Development
Maintain PTCB certification and any required state certifications/registrations. Maintain and enhance knowledge related to pharmacy and healthcare; pursue additional certifications and training as required. Engage in professional development, seek feedback, and leverage mentorship for ongoing performance improvement. Communication
Communicate with the pharmacy team and relay messages from support centers and other key emails; participate in store/pharmacy meetings and regular check-ins with the Store Manager. Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico). One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting. Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico). Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (except in Community Specialty Pharmacy and Health System Pharmacy locations). Preferred Qualifications
Previous people management/leadership experience. Previous work experience with Walgreens with an Exceeding Expectation on last performance evaluation.
