Position Job title:

Service Engineer (Needville, TX site)

Purpose of the position:

The Service Engineer is responsible for maintaining Utility and commercial inverters, PV solar equipment, and customer site equipment at the assigned site. Duties include commissioning, troubleshooting, repairing, and analyzing inverter applications, working with low and medium voltage electricity, and maintaining excellent customer service while at customer sites.

Primary Duties / Responsibilities

Commission, troubleshoot, repair, and analyze Utility and commercial inverters, PV solar equipment, and customer site equipment in the field (via on-site work, email, and phone).

Develop detailed knowledge of SMA’s inverter products, associated PV accessories, site equipment, and third-party accessories used with inverters.

Maintain knowledge of applicable National Electric Code and electrical safety codes (NEC, NFPA70E, NESC, OSHA).

Work with high voltage DC, low and medium voltage three-phase power, SCADA or third-party monitoring, and associated software/firmware of site equipment.

Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction while aiming to lower field service costs.

Ability to work from heights (ladders or lifts) and operate forklifts if required.

Work at assigned sites and travel as needed to SMA or customer sites.

Perform additional duties as required or assigned.

Required Training

An Associate’s degree or higher in a technical field is strongly preferred.

Required Relevant Professional Experience

At least 2 years of experience in PV Solar and/or PV Solar operations & maintenance.

At least 3 years of experience in electrical, electronic, and/or network communications.

NABCEP Certification strongly preferred.

Other Specialized Skills

Knowledge of solar and/or alternative energy markets is preferred.

Knowledge of National Electric Code is preferred.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

Proficiency in English (written and verbal) required; German and/or Spanish is a plus.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) is required.

Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy; strong problem-solving abilities.

Ability to travel domestically and internationally on a limited basis.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation Range: $28-32 per hour.
