Primary Purpose Testing and Commissioning engineers are a front-line field engineering force that commissions, maintains, and troubleshoots transmission and distribution level protection and control systems inside ComEd substations. System and equipment types include protective relays, SCADA, substation automation, power and control equipment, fiber-optic, power line carrier, and revenue metering. The Testing and Commissioning engineers perform field testing and commissioning activities for installation of new equipment, along with troubleshooting, repairs and preventive maintenance of existing equipment. Commissioning new equipment includes creating commissioning plans, writing livening procedures, creating and running test plans, and analyzing test results compared to expected values. They troubleshoot and perform field investigations for malfunctioning power equipment, system events and protective relaying misoperations. They support corrective maintenance to repair identified equipment issues and perform preventive maintenance on protection system components and SCADA. Position may require extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other emergencies. Primary Duties Testing and Commissioning engineers provide technical leadership in the field. They direct and support substation maintenance and contractor crews on work related to these systems. They collaborate with ComEd’s Central T&S Engineering, Work Management, Project Management, Operations, Data Maintenance, and Substation Maintenance to support T&S activities. They contribute to substation outage/work planning, maintain engineering drawings, manage relay/SCADA databases, support NERC/CIP audits, and support maintenance programs and safety culture. Job Scope Conduct commissioning, maintenance, and project installation testing activities on power equipment. Minimum Qualifications A bachelor's degree in a technical field and 3 or more years of technical experience, an associate's degree and 5 or more years of technical experience, or 7 or more years of technical experience or relevant education, if non-degreed or a non-technical degree. Successful completion of the TECH Test (Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university exempts the TECH Test). Broad knowledge of regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary for maintenance, testing, installation or service in a specific discipline. Ability to direct crews during maintenance or commissioning of equipment or systems (Testing Group). Ability to investigate and test / troubleshoot & commission distribution automation system equipment (Distribution Testing). Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills. Valid driver's license. Willingness to travel to various company substations or locations within the service territory. Available to work shifts and respond to emergency situations (7 days per week / 24 hours per day). Knowledge of complex field test equipment. Relevant education/experience includes military, project management, journey-level electrician or gas technician, field operations, or other utility experience. Educational programs or company training may also be considered. The equivalent relevant education/experience is in addition to minimum requirements. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Technical experience related to electrical power equipment. Electrical troubleshooting experience. Benefits Annual salary range: $88,000.00/Yr. – $121,000.00/Yr. (varies based on skills and experience).
